MLB Preview- Chicago White Sox at Arizona Diamondbacks
Chicago White Sox -113
Arizona Diamondbacks -107
The Chicago White Sox continue their three-game interleague series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field today in Game 2. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast regionally on the MLB Network.
Chicago was haunted by one of its old pitchers Daniel Hudson in Friday’s Game 1 when he pitched the Diamondbacks to a 4-1 decision over the 121 road underdogs. The loss was the White Sox’s third in-a-row leaving them 5.5 games in back of Cleveland and Detroit in the AL Central with an overall record of 33-38. They are 16-17 at home and 17-21 on the road.
Even more concerning is the fact that Chicago has now scored a total of two runs in those three losses after averaging 4.1 runs a game this year. Pitching has also been an issue as the team’s ERA has climbed to 4.07, ranking it ninth in the AL. Left-hander John Danks will get the start in this one for the White Sox. He is 2-8 this season with a 4.54 ERA but has managed to win his last two outings by giving up a total of two earned runs in 15 innings pitched.
Arizona is 6-4 in its last 10 games and just a half a game behind San Francisco in the NL West. The Diamondbacks continue to be one of the biggest surprises this season with a record of 39-32. They are 17-17 on the road and 22-15 at home.
This team’s overall hitting is nothing to write home about with a very pedestrian .253 batting average, but Arizona has been very proficient at producing runs with an average of 4.65 a game. The D-Backs’ pitching has also been very average with a team ERA of 3.90 but solid enough to keep them right in the thick of their division race. Zach Duke, another left-hander will be on the mound for Arizona. He is 1-1 in four starts this season with an ERA of 4.56. Last time out he was shelled by the Marlins; giving up seven earned runs on 13 hits in just 4.2 innings.
Stick with the White Sox to even the score tonight as Danks appears to be back in form after a dismal 0-8 start.
