MLB Preview – Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angles Angels
Los Angeles Dodgers +101
Los Angles Angels -111
Total: 7o -115
The Dodgers and the Angels renew their crosstown interleague rivalry tonight in Game 1 of a three-game weekend Freeway Series in Anaheim. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. (ET) and the game will be available on MLB Network.
The Dodgers’ financial woes off field have taken their toll on the field as the team is mired in last place in the NL West with just two wins in their last seven games and an overall record of 36-46; 10 games in back of San Francisco. They are 19-24 at home and 17-22 on the road.
Hitting has not been an issue for the Dodgers this season as they are ranked sixth in the NL with a .269 team batting average, but pitching has with a team ERA of 4.04. Hiroki Kuroda is slated to get the start in tonight’s game. He has struggled to get wins with a 5-9 record in 16 starts, but still has a respectable ERA of 3.10. His current losing streak reached six games with a loss to the Angels on June 26.
The Angels find themselves in a tooth and nail battle with Texas in the AL West at the midway point of the season. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games and just one game in back of the Rangers. The Angels are 42-40 overall and actually have a better record on the road (24-20) than they do at home (18-20).
The team’s hitting has been decent this season with a .257 batting average but the Angels have struggled to score runs with an average of 3.82 a game. Fortunately, their pitching has compensated for this lack of production with a team ERA of 3.41. Tyler Chatwood will be on the mound tonight and will look to remain perfect against his NL foes after winning his first three interleague games. Overall, he is 5-4 this season with a 3.64 ERA in 15 previous starts.
Head-to-head, the Angels won two of three the other week at Dodgers Stadium. Kuroda and Chatwood were the starters when the Angels pounded out a 6-1 victory as a 127 road underdog in Game 2 of this series and the total stayed ‘under’ the 7.5-run line. Stick with the Angels to once again grab the early edge with a win tonight.
