Let’s look at trends to consider for series’ this week.
-The Detroit Tigers are just three games ahead of the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central. Cleveland has done a great job hanging around in the AL Central this year, but they are going to have to do a little better against the Tigers. Detroit is 8-1 in their last 9 games against the Indians. Cleveland will host Detroit in a crucial four-game series this week.
-The Minnesota Twins are 15-36 in their last 51 games against a team with a winning record. Kansas City is 13-3 in their last 16 games overall. These two teams will start a series Monday night in Kansas City. The Royals are 15-2 in Jeremy Guthrie’s last 17 home starts. The Twins are 1-6 in their last 7 games in Kansas City.
-Baltimore has been superb following a day off. The Orioles are 26-10 in their last 36 games following a day off. Baltimore is also 6-0 in their last 6 during game one of a series. Baltimore has a day off on Monday before starting a three game series in San Diego with the Padres.
-The Texas Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 meetings with the Los Angeles Angels. Texas will be in Los Angeles this week as they try to keep pace with the Oakland Athletics. The Angels are 0-6 in their last 6 games against the American League West.
-The Philadelphia Phillies are 0-12 in their last 12 games against a right-handed pitcher. They are also 0-5 in their last 5 home games. They’ll host the Chicago Cubs this week. Can the Phillies break out of this slump?
-The Colorado Rockies are 0-6 in their last 6 Tuesday games. Is it just a fluke? That is certainly possible. More concerning should be the fact that the Rockies are 24-50 in their last 74 road games. On the other hand, the Rockies are a perfect 8-0 in their last 8 games at New York. The Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 Tuesday games. Something has to give on Tuesday in New York.
-The Atlanta Braves are 11-3 in their last 14 games against the Washington Nationals. It seems as if the Braves have finished off the NL East already, but they can probably stick a fork in any comeback hopes of the Nationals with a series win in Washington this week.
