New York Giants: Offense Feeling Blue

The New York Giants were one of those teams that got the luxury of playing an additional preseason game since they kicked off the season in the Hall Of Game. Despite the extra time on the field it has still not been enough time to adjust to a new offensive scheme.

Coach Tom Coughlin said quarterback Eli Manning and the rest of the starters would play about 15-18 snaps in Thursday’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots. Up to this point the Giants offense has looked stagnant.

One of the offensive problems for this team is blocking up front.

It could get even tougher for the front line to protect Manning after losing guard Geiff Schwartz to injury.

The Giants need to get healthy and get this offense straightened out if they want to have a chance of returning to the Super Bowl. Playing their starters in the last week of the preseason is a desperation move that shows how much of a problem that there is with the offense.

New England Patriots: Young Guns

While the Giants are concerned about their offense, the Patriots are content with letting their subs see some serious playing time in the last preseason game.

Carolina Panthers: One Concerned Cat

Panic is starting to bubble to the surface in Carolina. Quarterback Cam Newton has a fractured rib and will be held out of the last week of the preseason.

Although coach Ron Rivera is game planning with Newton under center this is cause for concern for a team that will live and die on the arm (and legs) of their quarterback. The good news is the backup, Derek Anderson, has looked sharp in preseason. He’s completed 14 of 22 pass attempts for 234 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in three preseason games for a healthy quarterback rating of 110.8.

If Newton plays in week one it may only be matter of time before he is hurting.

I am down on the Panthers this season and don’t expect a return to the playoffs, but without Newton they are doomed.

Washington Redskins: Use Your Head Man!

When a player tells another player to “Use your head” they are talking about making smart decisions on the football field. Redskins safety Brandon Meriwether is taking it literally.

This is not the first time that Merriweather has had an incident like this and for that reason, the league acted quickly.

The Redskins need all the help they can get on defense as it is a big problem. This combined with a shaky offense could mean a long season for Redskin fans.

Vegas Rankings: Looking For a Good Poll?

When betting on the NFL it is very important to use a wide variety of resources to select winners. One tool that is often overlooked is the NFL Vegas Power Ranks. Many handicappers and fans often use “normal” power rankings or dismiss them altogether, but it would be a mistake to overlook the Vegas Power rankings.

The Vegas power rankings take different things into account that should be used by every handicapper. They can assist with making your own power rankings or even better, uncover a team that is flying under the radar or that is overrated.
