Best Money Pitchers in Baseball (Updated 7/24/13)
The All-Star break is said and done with, and the boys of summer are going to be back in the saddle for what should be a great summer surge. This is an article you’re definitely going to want to read, as it will go over all of the best money pitchers on the MLB odds this season.
As the Los Angeles Dodgers continue their surge to the top of the NL West, the starting pitchers at the top of the rotation continue to net more and more money for bettors. The two men that are ranked in the Top 12 in the game are Zack Greinke and Hyun Jin Ryu. These two have been on fire of late, and they have combined to start 25 Dodgers victories this year against just nine defeats. The two have also made a combined $1,633 between them, which is remarkable considering the fact that LA is still a losing team from a betting perspective in the totality of the season.
The men that have been at the top of this list of starting pitchers continue to be at the top of the pack. Arizona’s Patrick Corbin has led the D’Backs to an 18-2 record and a +$1,545 mark in his first 20 starts, and he now has three straight wins. Corbin is remarkably 12-1 with a 2.31 ERA this year, and there is a real argument that he should be the Cy Young Award winner in the National League if he can keep this up for the rest of the season.
Time really might be short for Bartolo Colon. Colon has his name involved in the Biogenesis ring, and if he gets the same type of suspension that Ryan Braun got, he might be finished for the rest of the season. For now though, Colon is still one of the best money pitchers in the game, leading bettors to profits of $1,113.
The rest of the Top 5 is littered with pitchers from the red hot AL East, where four teams are still really in the thick of the fight. Chris Tillman is the leader of the pack for the Baltimore Orioles at 15-5 and +$1,056. Tillman is 12-3 personally, and he only has a 3.84 ERA. The truth of the matter is that he hasn’t had a brilliant start since June, though his last outing against the Texas Rangers was solid with just two runs allowed in eight innings of work.
Matt Moore just keeps winning games as well. The lefty has won his last six decisions, and he is coming off of the best start of his career. Moore shut out the hated Boston Red Sox for his first career complete game and his first career shutout, allowing just two hits and a walk to get through the 27 outs. At 14-3, Moore has a real chance to be a 20-game winner this year, and in spite of the fact that he has walked 56 batters this year, he might be the Cy Young Award winner as well in the American League. For the season, Moore has guided Tampa Bay to a 16-4 mark and +$1,041, and he has really come on strong over the course of these last several starts.
In fifth and sixth in baseball are two men that we have been talking about all season long. Jeanmar Gomez is done in the Pittsburgh rotation in all likelihood with his perfect 8-0 record and a +$1,024 mark as a starter, and it’s anyone’s guess when Boston’s Clay Buchholz, 11-1 and +$942 is going to get back on the mound for the team with the most wins in baseball.
The other notable name towards the top of the list of money pitchers this year is Matt Garza. Garza was traded this week from the Chicago Cubs to the Texas Rangers, and he is bringing a great money mark to Arlington. The righty only started 11 games with the Cubs this year, leading the team to an 8-3 mark and +$703 in profits, ranking him 12th in baseball.
The other pitchers that round out the Top 12 that we haven’t discussed include Jordan Zimmerman (15-5, +$930) in 7th, Ubaldo Jimenez (13-7, +$872) in 9th, and Max Scherzer (16-4, +$867) in 10th.
