NBA Betting Guide April 11
There is less than three weeks left in the NBA regular season and the race to lock-up one of the eight playoff spots in both the Eastern and Western Conference is in full gear. Chicago and Miami have already clinched a berth in the East and through Monday night’s games; Oklahoma City and San Antonio had punched their ticket to the postseason in the West.
This NBA betting guide is more interested in which teams have been able to provide a healthy return on investment through their ability to consistently cover against the spread. The following is a brief look at the top four teams in the NBA in this category.
The San Antonio Spurs have reeled-off 14 straight-up victories in their last 16 games to run their overall record on the year to 40-15. What has caught our eye about this run is the Spurs’ 11-3-2 record against the spread in the same span of games. They are now a league-best 33-19-3 ATS overall with the total going 31-24. San Antonio has really paid-off at home with a SU record of 23-4 and a 19-7-1 record ATS. The total has gone 12-15 in the 27 games. On the road, it is 17-11 SU and 14-12-2 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in 19 of those 28 games.
Despite losing three of their last four games, the Chicago Bulls still have the best SU record in the NBA at 43-14 heading into Tuesday night’s game against New York. They are 0-3-1 ATS during this stretch but still have the second-best record ATS at 32-24-1. Chicago is 22-6 SU at home this season but just 13-14-1 ATS. It has been profitable on the road with a 19-10 record ATS to go along with a SU record of 21-8. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of the Bulls’ last eight games and overall it is 30-26-1 on the year. It has gone 14-13-1 at home and 16-13 on the road.
The team with the third-best record ATS this season is the Oklahoma City Thunder at 32-25 to go along with the best SU record in the West at 42-15. The Thunder have also hit a bit of a rough patch with a 2-3 record in their last five games both SU and ATS heading into Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. They are now 24-5 SU at home and 16-13 ATS with the total going 15-14 in the 29 games. Oklahoma City is 18-10 SU on the road and 16-12 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 16 of the 38 games.
Do not look for the Toronto Raptors come playoff time with a SU record of 20-38, but there is still time to capitalize on their ability to cover. The Raptors are 32-25-1 ATS this season, but 0-3 SU and 1-2 ATS in their last three games heading into Wednesday night’s game against Philadelphia. Proceed with caution as the Raptors may be already riding out the string, but for the most part they have done well ATS all season long. Overall, Toronto is 15-13-1 ATS at home this season with the total going 13-16 in the 29 games. It has been better on the road at 17-12 ATS with the total staying ‘under’ in 16 of 29 games.
A few other teams that have done well ATS this season are the Golden State Warriors at 22-34 SU and 31-25 ATS, the Phoenix Suns at 30-27 SU and 31-26 ATS, and the Houston Rockets at 32-25 SU and 31-26 ATS.
There are a couple of teams that have winning records on the court but remain under .500 ATS including the Los Angeles Lakers at 36-22 SU but 23-35 ATS, the Indiana Pacers at 35-22 SU but 27-30 ATS, and the Memphis Grizzlies at 33-23 SU but 27-29 ATS.
