NBA Betting Guide-February 14

NBA Betting Guide-February 14

The NBA is rapidly approaching the halfway point of this year’s abbreviated 66-game regular season with most teams having at close to 30 games under their belts. Things have pretty much gone according to script for the majority of the preseason favorites, but we have seen a few ‘under the radar’ teams establish themselves as potential spoilers come playoff time.

This NBA betting guide takes into consideration how a particular team is doing in the standings, but its primary goal is to provide a weekly snap-shot of which teams have been the top performers where it counts the most; against the spread.

Through Monday night’s games, the upstart Philadelphia 76ers continue to not only be the most surprising team in the NBA this season, but the most profitable one ATS. The 76ers moved to 20-9 straight-up on the year with a 98-89 victory over Charlotte their last time out, but could not cover as 12-point home favorites. None the less, they are 18-10 ATS overall; 12-6 ATS at home and 6-4-1 ATS on the road. Philadelphia has been one of the best defensive teams in the league; holding opponents to an average of just 86.8 points a game. This has also made it a solid play on the total line with 17 of its 29 games staying ‘under’ the total.

Next on the list is the red-hot San Antonio Spurs, who currently have the longest winning streak in the NBA both SU and ATS at seven. The Spurs are now 19-9 SU heading into Tuesday night’s game against Detroit. They are 17-11 ATS and the total has stayed ‘under’ in 16 of their 28 games. San Antonio has been especially profitable at home with a 13-1 record SU and a 10-4 record ATS. It is getting better on the road with four straight wins, but overall it is 6-8 SU and 7-7 ATS. The Spurs now lead Dallas by a game and a half in the Southwest Division and are second only to Oklahoma City in the Western Conference standings.

The team with the best SU record in the NBA at 23-7 has also provided a healthy return ATS at 18-12. The Chicago Bulls have been without All-Star guard Derrick Rose for the last two games as he continues to suffer from back spasms, but fortunately there does not appear to be any long-term issues with the injury. Chicago is 9-1 SU at home this season but just 5-5 ATS. It has done its real damage on the road with a SU record of 14-6 and a 13-7 record ATS. The total has been balanced at 15-14-1 overall, but it has stayed ‘under’ in six of the 10 games at home while going ‘over’ in 12 of 20 games on the road. The Bulls are averaging just over 97 points a game and ranked third in the league in points allowed; giving-up 87.1 points a game.

A few other teams that have been solid money makers so far are the Dallas Mavericks at 18-11 SU and 17-12 ATS, the Los Angeles Clippers at 17-9 SU and 15-11 ATS, and the Denver Nuggets at 16-12 both SU and ATS. Two solid plays on the total line have been the New York Knicks and the Phoenix Suns. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 19 of the Knicks’ 28 games and in 20 of the Suns’ 28 games.

At the other end of the spectrum are a couple of high-profile teams with winning records on the court but have a less than stellar performance ATS. The Los Angeles Lakers are 16-12 SU but 12-16 ATS and the Miami Heat are 22-7 SU but 14-15 ATS.
