The Houston Rockets have had a very tough start to the year, but will be hard pressed to turn it around against the San Antonio Spurs. The latest NBA Sports betting odds as posted by Diamond Sports International (DSI) have the Spurs listed as 6.5 point hoe favorites in this game. Unless the Rockets can change the way that they have been playing up to this point, this could be an easy cover for the home team.
The Rockets have yet to win a game in the early NBA season and are 0-4 in the basement of the Southwest division. Rockets head coach Rick Adleman has accused his team of not playing hard enough so far on the season, “I don’t think we’re playing exactly hard enough. I think we played a lot harder last year when we were down and out and people thought we weren’t going to do…” The Rockets will have to put a complete effort on the floor if they hope to stay close with the Spurs.
One of the main reasons for the trouble for the Rockets is the Yao Ming experiment. To keep the big man healthy throughout the year the Rocket coaches are rotating Ming in and out of the lineup to keep him fresh. This has caused disruption on the rotations and broken up good stretches of basketball. The Rockets will take a different approach when they play against the Spurs.
The Spurs have been mirror opposites of the Rockets and have started the season off with a record of 3-1. The Spurs are playing tough from the start of the season and Richrd Jefferson is finally living up to his potential. In the last game, Jefferson netted 28 points and was a great compliment to Tim Duncan, who had 25 points on the night. The Spurs may look past the Rockets in this game with how poorly they have played.
The Underdog is 5-1 (ATS) in the last six meetings and the Rockets are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings in San Antonio. The Spurs are 2-5 ATS in their last seven against the Western Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last five after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. The Rockets finally get their first win of the season at the expense of the Spurs.
