NBA Betting Picks: LA Lakers at Denver Nuggets

The second game of the TNT NBA doubleheader for Thursday features the best team in basketball as the LA Lakers travel to play the Denver Nuggets. The latest NBA betting odds as posted by Diamond Sports International (DSI) have the Nuggets listed as small home underdogs.

The Lakers have been unstoppable on the short season and they have yet to play a game with injured center Andrew Bynum. The Lakers are 8-0, their best start since the 1987-88 season, when they began that season with the same record and show no signs of slowing down.

The Lakers coasted through the last game against the Timberwolves and had to turn it on late to stay undefeated. This happens to good teams quite often in the NBA when they look past a weaker opponent in anticipation of a bigger game. The Nuggets suffered a worse fate as they were blown out against the hot shooing Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers could not miss when they demolished the Nuggets and put 144 points on the board. The Pacers scored 54 points in the third quarter as they were 20 of 21 from the floor. For the Pacers it was the highest-scoring quarter in team history, and the Nuggets never had a chance. Denver will know attempt to regroup and focus on the Lakers.

Denver coach George Karl said. “We know that happens three or four times a year. Hopefully we can get better and respond against the Lakers on Thursday.” The Nuggets will have the home court advantage and that has been important in this series as the Lakers are just 2-5 against the spread (ATS) in the last seven meetings in the Pepsi center.

The Lakers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight when their opponent allows 100 points or more in their previous game and 1-8 ATS in their last nine Thursday games. The Nuggets are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 125 points in their previous game and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 home games against a team with a winning road record.

The Nuggets rebound from an embarrassing loss and beat the Lakers giving them their first loss of the season.
