The LA Lakers will test the young and upcoming Kings when they head to Arco Arena on Wednesday night. The latest NBA odds posted by Diamond Sportsbook International (DSI) have the Lakers listed as favorites in this contest. That comes as no surprise since the Lakers are on the odds on favorite to return to the NBA Championship from the western conference, but the Kings see this as a challenge.
The Kings have started the season winning three out of the first four games that they have played but skeptics will quickly point out that they have beaten teams that will most likely miss the playoffs. That doesn’t mean the Kings have not shown progress.
Tyreke Evans and Beno Udrih have led the charge in bringing the team to the next level and that was never more evident than in the come from behind win in the opener against the Toronto Raptors. The team played horrendous defense in the first half and fell behind and had to adjust at the half. Kings coach Paul Westphal was thrilled with the way the Kings reacted with defense in the second half and the result was an opening win at home.
Now they have to try and bring that same intensity to the game against the Lakers. The Lakers are still on a completely different level and although the Kings are improving they are not ready for the next level. The Lakers have thrived in this arena as they are 7-1 against the spread (ATS) in the last eight meetings in Sacramento. The Kings are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games as a home underdog and 0-6 ATS in their last six home games against a team with a winning road record. Teams get excited when Kobe Bryant and Co. come to town but are often powerless against the Laker powerhouse.
The Kings are on their way to becoming a better team, but the Lakers will win easily and show them what a championship team looks like.
