#4 Boston Celtics
#1 Los Angeles Lakers
Lakers Lead Series 1-0
The 2010 NBA Finals continues on Sunday night in Tinseltown, as the Los Angeles Lakers hope to take a 2-0 series lead in this best of seven set when they play host to the Boston Celtics.
HC Doc Rivers has to wonder if his team just got knocked around with a dose of its own medicine in Game 1 of this series. The C’s used a stifling defense to get around both the Orlando Magic and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but on Friday night, it was a defense in purple and gold that did the stifling. The Celtics only shot 43.3 percent from the field and a woeful 1/10 from beyond the arc in a game that they never really competed in from the get go. Rebounding has to be significantly better for Boston, as it was outdone on the glass by 11 boards. F Kevin Garnett and C Kendrick Perkins, who should be two of the top rebounders on the court at all times, only had a combined seven boards between them. F Paul Pierce led the way in Game 1 with 24 points and nine rebounds for the Celtics.
The scariest thing that the C’s may be facing for the rest of this series is the prospects of G Kobe Bryant really catching fire. The Lakers dropped 102 points on the board in spite of the fact that Bryant only shot 10/22 from the floor. Still, Kobe scored 30 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists to lead the way. F Pau Gasol, notoriously known for being “weak” in his career, looked like a bull in a China shop in the paint, scoring 23 points and ripping down 14 rebounds. The Spaniard also blocked three shots and altered several others. LA only hit four three pointers in the game, three of which came from F Ron Artest, who scored 15 points.
Boston looked absolutely terrible in Game 1 of this series, and we are starting to wonder if it really has the horses to hang with the Lakers. It is well documented that HC Phil Jackson has never lost a series that he has taken a 1-0 series lead in, so the uphill climb is certainly incredibly steep for the Celtics in this one. We’re going to come back with them again in Game 2 though, as we still think that things can only get better, especially in the paint.
The Celtics are 5-0 ATS in their L/5 games following one in which they allowed 100+ points. The NBA Finals are in full swing, and the basketball betting action couldn’t be any hotter! Sign up for an account right now at Bookmaker
