In a Sunday night Showdown in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers host the Indiana Pacers in the last game of the day. The latest NBS Sports betting odds as posted by Diamond Sportsbook International have the Lakers listed as nine point home favorites and the total set at 199.
The Lakers are one of the best teams in the league in the early going and are poised to go to another NBA Finals. Led by Kobe Bryant and head coach Phil Jackson, the Lakers have won 13 of the first 16 games that they have played to start the season.
The Lakers are currently off a last second road loss to the Utah Jazz. The loss was highlighted by a turnover on Kobe Bryant late in the game that cost the Lakers a shot at the victory. The loss may have highlighted a chink in the Lakers armor as Derek Fisher was dominated by the play of Deron Williams. Fisher had a terrible outing Friday night in the Lakers’ loss in Utah, forcing shots and making an inexplicable turnover on a fast break. Fisher shot 1 for 7 from the field with no assists and five fouls. Williams had 29 points on 10-of-14 shooting, 12 assists, two turnovers and two steals. The Lakers look to get better against an Indiana team that has not had much look winning in L.A.
The Pacers have never beaten the Lakers at the Staples center and that is where they will start a tough four game road trip. The Pacers led by Danny Granger are 7-7 on the season but have played some of the better teams in the NBA very closely. They lost by just four points to the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Orlando Magic and they are starting to believe that they can play with anyone. Danny Granger and Josh McRoberts lead the young and upcoming Pacers and will try to get a win on the road.
The Pacers are 12-3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last 16 games following a loss and 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games playing on 1 days’ rest. They are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as an underdog of 5.0-10.5 and an amazing 27-11 ATS in their last 38 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game. The Pacers will surprise some people and keep this game closer than the experts predict.
