For the second straight day, the Boston Celtics are going to be playing a game here at the Staples Center, and this time, they’ll be trying to beat the NBA betting lines against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Celtics literally gave it everything that they had to erase a double digit first quarter deficit to the Lakers, but they just weren’t able to get the job done in the showcase game on the NBA slate on Sunday. They were beaten by three, but there were definitely some positives to take away from the game. First off, they covered the spread, which is always even better than winning the game in our world. Secondly, all of the players that they really need to step up to win games did just that. It is starting to look more and more likely that Rajon Rondo is going to stay in Beantown, especially if there are more games like yesterday’s in which he had 24 points and 10 assists. To make matters even better though, all four other starters made it into double figures in scoring as well. Of course, there was the down side to this whole ordeal, and that was that the bench really didn’t play well. Those players shot just 5-of-14 from the floor combined and came up with just 11 points. That won’t cut it to beat the Clippers either in all likelihood.
The Clippers finally got back at home for the first time in the month of March last night, but they were beaten by the Golden State Warriors in a game that was one of the more brutal on the season. We are really still trying to figure this LA team out. It is clear that the talent level is here, even with Chauncey Billups out of the fold. Want proof? The team went on the road just a few nights ago and beat the snot out of the San Antonio Spurs. However, there have just been some mind-numbing losses of late as well, especially on the road, and games like the loss to these Warriors, the New Jersey Nets, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the likes, are really frustrating the NBA betting public. Chris Paul has really been an alpha male for this team of late, and he continued that with a 23 point effort against Golden State on Sunday. It was his third straight game with at least 22, though the loss against the Warriors did stop his double-double streak of a pair of games.
The Final Word: Boston knows that it let one get away yesterday, and on this road trip, losing games like that are going to really sting. The Celtics should be more acclimated this time around, and as long as they get off to a better start, they might be poised for the upset. We definitely want the points on our side.
