Wednesday, April 25th’s NBA betting battle in the Big Apple is a big one, as the Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks prepare to get it on with the playoffs lurking this weekend.
The Clips now know that they aren’t winning the Pacific Division, as the Los Angeles Lakers locked that up last night. Now, going into the final game of the season, the Clippers know that they are going to be playing the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs. A loss tonight to the Knicks, and Memphis will be able to steal the No. 4 seed and the home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs if it can beat the Orlando Magic on Thursday. That being said, this is one in which the Clips are just going to want to take care of business and get back home to rest for the playoffs, instead of having to fly home on Thursday and then back to Memphis for the weekend’s first two games of the postseason. Chris Paul played through a bit of a groin injury against the Atlanta Hawks two nights ago, and he might be held out of this one by Head Coach Vinny Del Negro. Paul had 34 points that night, but he was overshadowed by the play of Blake Griffin, who had 36 points on 17-of-23 shooting and had eight boards.
The Knicks have two games left in their regular season, and barring a collapse by the Orlando Magic, they are just fighting with the Philadelphia 76ers for the No. 7 or No. 8 seed in the East. The truth of the matter is that New York would be a lot better taking on the Miami Heat than the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the playoffs, though either way, the task is going to be incredibly difficult. Head Coach Mike Woodson really has to get his team on the same page, though. Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony are still working on their mojo, though the Knicks played a lot better in a win at the Atlanta Hawks than they did in the first game back for these two against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Melo had 39 points and 10 boards, and his name is likely all of a sudden in the ring for league MVP this year. Stoudemire had 22 points and 12 boards. All five starters logged double digits in scoring as well.
The Final Word: The Knicks are playing well right now, and we think that they are going to get the job done in this one. They really need to hit the playoffs on a high more than any other team in the league, and we think that they are going to do just that, making the Clippers sweat out the final day of the regular season.
