NBA Pointspread: Lakers -6
The Denver Nuggets won Game Three at home, but the Lakers took control of the series with a strong fourth quarter en route to a Game Four victory. The Nuggets offense has struggled to get on track against the Lakers. They’ll have to find a way to get it in gear if they wish to keep their season alive. TNT will have coverage of this game on Tuesday night.
George Karl’s team has been doing everything it can to turn these meetings into a track meet, but the Lakers are a tough team to run against. Denver shot itself in the foot in Game Four by going just 3 for 19 from the three-point line. Ty Lawson and Danilo Gallinari combined to shoot 1 for 9 from beyond the arc. Gallinari didn’t shoot well from the outside, but he did get to the hoop and put in 20 points last game. Al Harrington has struggled offensively all series.
The Nuggets haven’t found anyone who can stop Andrew Bynum. Bynum has been dominating in the paint all series long. Denver did a pretty good job on the boards in the first three games, but the Lakers dominated the glass in Game Four. They can’t afford to let the Lakers get so many second chance opportunities this time around.
Kobe Bryant piled up the points in the first two games of this series, but he has been more of a facilitator in key parts of the game the last two times out. Still, Bryant is averaging 28.2 points per game in this series. The performance of the Lakers role players is what helped them win Game Four in Denver. Los Angeles had six players finish in double digits in scoring. Ramon Sessions has scored at least 12 points in every game of the series, and Jordan Hill has been a key contributor in the paint.
Los Angeles has gotten the lead in the series thanks to their terrific half court defense. The Lakers have been blocking shots like crazy and making life very difficult on the Nuggets when they get anywhere close to the basket. The Lakers have done a nice job slowing down the backcourt of the Nuggets, and the interior defense of guys like Bynum and Gasol has changed the series.
The Nuggets are a perfect 8-0 ATS in their last 8 games coming off a straight up loss. They are 29-10 ATS in their last 39 as a road underdog. The Lakers are 1-12 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite of 5-10.5 points.
The under is 23-8 in the Nuggets last 31 playoff games as an underdog. The under is also 35-17 in the last 52 meetings between these two teams.
