NBA Pointspread: Heat -8
The New York Knicks are now in the record books, but it certainly isn’t the way they want to be there. The Knicks loss on Thursday night pushed their playoff losing streak to an all-time record of 13 straight games. It’s been a dramatic season for the Knicks, but this series appears to be going without any drama. Miami is one win away from a series sweep. Can the Knicks muster up some pride and win at Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon?
The Miami Heat trailed at halftime on Thursday night, but they absolutely owned the second half. The Heat’s defense held New York to just 70 points in the Game Three win. LeBron James scored 17 points in the fourth quarter of the Game Three win. Mario Chalmers made five from beyond the arc and finished with 19 points. Dwyane Wade is shooting 56% from the floor so far this series. While the offense has been impressive, it has been the defense that has dominated. New York is averaging a measly 77 points per game in this series so far. When Miami is playing lock down defense they are incredibly difficult to beat. Shane Battier has given the Heat another terrific defender this year, which gives them more flexibility on the defensive end.
New York is a team that has been a mess all season long. Mike D’Antoni was let go in the middle of the season. Jeremy Lin came in and provided a big spark for a while, but then he suffered a major injury and has been out. Amar’e Stoudemire has been constantly injured this year, and his post-game meltdown after Game Two finished with him suffering a major laceration on his hand. Lin and Stoudemire are both doubtful for Sunday’s game. Iman Shumpert’s injury earlier this series also left the Knicks even more short-handed at the point guard spot. Carmelo Anthony was playing well at the end of the regular season, but the Heat have made life miserable on him. Anthony is shooting just 34.4% from the floor in this series.
The Knicks came into the playoffs on a 7-2 run ATS. They have failed to cover the number in all three games in his series.
The under is 24-9 in Miami’s last 33 games. The under is also 6-1 in the Heat’s last 7 Sunday games. The over is 6-1 in the Knicks last 7 Sunday games.
Free NBA Pick: Under 184
I see no reason to believe that the Knicks will put up a strong fight in this one. New York had its chance in Game Three and they fumbled it away in the second half. Miami’s defense is too much for New York. Look for another low scoring contest.
