Every week we will post four teams that are rising up the ladder from a gambling standpoint and four that are to be avoided when going to the betting window.
In this Stock Watch article, we are going to break down four teams who should be on your radar list heading into this week of betting on basketball.
On The Rise
New York Knicks
With their dismal start, it is very surprising to see the New York Knicks as a team to make the “On the Rise” list, yet here they are. In a weaker Eastern Conference the playoffs are wide open and the Knicks have amassed a five game winning streak to put them back in the playoff race. Carmelo Anthony has put the Knicks in the eight spot if the playoffs were to start today. Of course there is a very long time before the start of the playoffs and anything can happen, but for right now, the Knicks should be a team that is watched closely by basketball bettors.
The Toronto Raptors looked like they were a team in tank mode as they traded away Rudy Gay among the other talent they had on this team. However, the remaining players are proving that they are not giving up on the season and should be a team to watch in the near future. They have reeled off three straight wins and have won eight of the last ten overall. More importantly they are 6-1 in the last seven conference games, which shows that they play well in meaningful games.
On the Decline
The Orlando Magic has shown a glimpse of brilliance early in the season, but right now it looks as though they are playing for the draft instead of the playoffs. They have dropped eight in a row, and have lost eight of the last ten. Most notably is their poor play on the road where they have managed a 3-17 record away from home which is tied for the worst in basketball. The Magic are a team to avoid for the foreseeable future.
It was obvious the Celtics were in a rebuilding mode when they traded some of their best players in the off season, However they are in worse than a rebuilding mode, they are tanking. The return of Rajon Rondo may change things up but currently the Celtics have lost nine straight and they tend to lose by double digits on a nightly basis. Stay away from the Celtics!
