The Houston Rockets will travel to Indiana in search of their first road win of the season when they take on the Pacers. The latest NBA betting odds as released by online sportsbook, Diamond Sportsbook International (DSI) have the Pacers as 4.5 point favorites in this game.
The Pacers are coming off a franchise record setting game as the team exploded for 144 points against the Denver Nuggets. The scoring barrage was highlighted by a 54 point third quarter in which the Pacers as a team made 20 of 21 shots from the floor. Although they will be hard pressed to duplicate that effort, it was a game that will not easily be forgotten.
“That’s a quarter of basketball that will be remembered for a long time,” Pacers coach Jim O’Brien said.
The Rockets received bad news this week as center Yao Ming left the last game with an injured foot. It was announced that the oft injured center will miss a week of basketball, but the Rockets hope that it is not a long term problem. Ming has missed some or all of the last three basketball seasons and had improved at the start of this year. Just when they were going to increase Ming’s time on the floor the injury happened. There is no timetable for when Ming will be fully recovered from injury and ready to play at full strength.
The Rockets are 0-5 against the spread (ATS) in the last five meetings in Indiana and the home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings. The Pacers are 25-10 ATS in their last 35 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game and 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 home games. Meanwhile the Rockets are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games as a road underdog of 0.5-4.5 and 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games against the Eastern Conference.
The Rockets lose on the road and struggle without Ming.
