NCAA Basketball: Baylor Bears vs. BYU Cougars

NCAA Basketball Spread: BYU -2
This might not get the most attention of any game on Saturday, but I fully expect this to be one of the best games on the college hoops slate. Baylor comes with an 8-0 record and a top ten ranking, but the Marriott Center is definitely not an easy place for visitors to win. BYU has some extremely passionate fans that make life difficult on the opposing team. Will Perry Jones and the talented Bears get out of here with a win? I expect a close game all the way.
Baylor arguably has the best frontcourt in all of college basketball. Perry Jones III is loved by all the NBA scouts because of his amazing athleticism and finishing ability. Quincy Miller may only be a freshman, but he has the game of a veteran. Miller is an extremely versatile player who can pound inside with the big guys or stretch the floor with his three-point shooting. The play of first-year guard Pierre Jackson has been a big boost for this team. Baylor needed some solid guard play, and they have gotten it from the youngster. Jackson is shooting a ridiculous 60% from beyond the arc, and he is averaging 10.2 points per game. What’s the primary reason Baylor is 8-0? The Bears use their long and athletic frames to play some terrific defense. Baylor ranks first in all of college basketball in opponents field goal percentage at just 33%.
No longer is Jimmer Fredette a part of the BYU Cougars basketball program, but don’t let that fool into thinking this team isn’t any good. Dave Rose does a great job with this program, and the Cougars are always a tough matchup. Noah Hartsock, Brandon Davies, and Charles Abouo form a terrific trio of forwards for this team. Hartsock leads the team with 17.3 points per contest. All three of these guys average better than six boards per game. The Cougars like to push the pace, and this squad is good at finding the open man in transition. BYU has actually improved defensively this year as compared to last season. Opponents are averaging just 58.5 points per game against the Cougars.
Both of these teams have a strong frontcourt, and this should be a heck of a battle. The Bears are the more athletic team, but BYU has a strong home court advantage. I think the best play in this one is the under.
