The Hoosiers are going to be in the NCAA Tournament this year, and it is a real testament to just how much better this team has gotten with the addition of Cody Zeller. Head Coach Tom Crean deserves all the credit in the world for getting this team back into the top of the Big Ten, and now, there is a real chance to win this whole tournament. Of course, there is nowhere to go but up from here, and we think that there is no way that this team is lower than the No. 5 line when the brackets come out on Sunday. Indiana has one of the more balanced offensive teams in the game. The combo of Zeller and Christian Watford has put together a ton of points, and in the end, the Hoosiers rank No. 19 in the land in total offense (77.5 PPG), No. 9 in shooting percentage (48.7%), and No. 2 in three-point shooting (43.2%). This is a real team now, and there is a reason that it is going to be in the madness of March once again this year.
The Badgers might be going up against a team that has a great offense, but there is no doubting that they have one of the best defenses in the land. In fact, they have ranked No. 1 in the country in total defense for basically the entire season, allowing just 51.9 points per game. Sure, a lot of this is because the offense limits possessions, but in the end, we are still talking about a team that is allowing teams to shoot just 37.7 percent from the field and 27.6 percent from beyond the arc. Both numbers are in the Top 3 in the country. That being said, the offense tends to be the demise of this team in losses. Jordan Taylor can be a one man show at times, and he is the team’s leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. Ryan Evans and Jared Berggren are both good for at least 10 points per game, but in the end, it is Taylor that is taking the big shot for the most part.
The Final Word: Indiana is going to be getting points in this one in all likelihood, but we think that it is the team that has a lot more to gain just out of the fact that it is still a team that is trying to figure out how to get back to the top of the heap in the Big Ten. The Badgers should make this a fantastic game, but in the end, there is just too much offense here for Zeller and Watford for the Hoosiers to go down.
