Big East rivals duke it out in the final weekend of NCAA basketball betting action in the regular season, and the Syracuse Orange will look to defend the Carrier Dome on Senior Day against the Louisville Cardinals.
There is most certainly good news and bad news here for the Cardinals. The good news is that they are going to be in the NCAA Tournament and are probably going to be a respectable seed. More good news is that they did prove that they can stick with this Syracuse team when these two played a duel that came right down to the wire at the KFC Yum! Arena. The bad news though, is that the form the Cards are in right now isn’t the greatest, and after last year’s shocking early exit from March Madness, there has to be a shadow of doubt that is currently hovering over this team in spite of the fact that it has the credentials and the talent to be a Final Four team this year. Still, Louisville has lost three of its last five games, and it has failed to cover four in a row, and a loss by a big margin here and an early exit in the Big East Tournament will probably be detrimental and a heck of a lot harder than it has to be for a team that is just this talented.
Speaking of talent, that’s what the Orange have at their disposal. The national media really hasn’t treated the ‘Cuse with all that much respect this year though, as everyone is paying attention to what the Kentucky Wildcats bring to the table. Even though there is no doubt that Syracuse is going to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, there aren’t going to be all that many that have it cutting down the nets just to get to the Final Four, let alone to win the whole enchilada. It is clear that this 2-3 zone has wreaked havoc all across the Big East this year, and the only time that it was penetrated to the point of defeat was in a game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in which Fab Melo, who is really improving on both sides of the court as the season goes on, was out of the lineup. Kris Joseph is still one of the top scorers for this team at 13.1 points per game, and he has knocked down some of the biggest shots of the season. He could be the difference this weekend.
The Final Word: In the end, we do think that Syracuse is notching that 30th win of the season on Saturday. That being said though, Louisville is going to be getting a heck of a lot of points, especially with the iffy form that it is in. Take those points, because this could be another one of those games that the Orange just more or less have to grit out at the death.
