This is a huge statement game for the Sun Devils. They are undefeated in conference play for now, but they know that they still have some tremendously difficult games on tap. If they’re going to be one of the big boys in the Pac-12, they’re going to have to beat some of the big boys in the Pac-12. It doesn’t get much bigger than Oregon, especially off of a National Championship Game appearance and an undefeated season in conference last year. That being said, there is already a sentiment that this team has underachieved this season. Many touted the Sun Devils as dark horse National Championship contenders, and an early season loss against the Illinois Fighting Illini, whether Head Coach Ron Zook and company are undefeated or not, just doesn’t sit well in Tempe. A loss in this one would be devastating to say the least, though at least the Pac-12 crown could still be in sight. QB Brock Osweiler has done a lot of damage through the air this year with 1,677 yards, but he has tossed 13 TD passes against six picks, far too many turnovers for just six games worth of work.
Oregon has really been rolling since it lost to the LSU Tigers in its opening game of the season. The offense has scored at least 43 points in all four of its games, and it has gotten to at least 56 in three of the four. No one would have expected the Ducks to put up this many points against ASU if they were healthy or not, but without RB LaMichael James in the fold, that task would seem nearly impossible. James has had three straight games with at least 200 yards rushing, and he had a real chance of being a 2,000 yard back this year when push came to shove. However, he suffered an elbow injury last week against the Cal Golden Bears that will likely keep him out for at least this game and potentially some more in the future, but at least the elbow isn’t broken. QB Darron Thomas and reserve RB Kenjon Barner will have a lot of pressure on their shoulders to perform at a high level against a team that could be dangerous.
Arizona State Sun Devils @ Oregon Ducks Pick: This is a lot of points to be giving a team like Arizona State. The Sun Devils have the offense to shoot it out with the Ducks; remember that it has scored at least 35 points in all of its wins this season. We like the ‘over’, but we are more inclined to take the two TDs all the way to the bank with the visitors. This could be a very, very close game at Autzen Stadium.
