(5-6, 5-5-1 ATS)
(9-2, 4-6-1 ATS)
For the final time as members of the Big XII, the Colorado Buffaloes and Nebraska Cornhuskers will meet in college football betting action. There is a ton on the line for both teams, and you can bet that these two teams are going to be giving it everything that they’ve got.
Colorado is playing for its bowl life in this one. The Buffs have come up large in two straight games to get closer to a shot at a bowl, and though they aren’t going to be guaranteed a slot with a victory, it would be hard to deny a team that has won three in a row including a win against a Top 15 team. After not scoring more than 31 points in a game in the first two months of the season, Colorado has suddenly gotten there in three straight, averaging 41.0 points per game in those three. With the QB Tyler Hansen experiment over due to injured ribs, QB Cody Hawkins has proven that he has been a fantastic replacement. The senior, who is the son of the departed HC Dan Hawkins, has thrown for 1,384 yards, and he has a whopping 12/4 TD/INT ratio. RB Rodney Stewart is having a fantastic campaign, as he has rumbled for 1,230 yards and ten scores on a hefty 270 carries. Defensively, Colorado has allowed 399.4 yards per game, 270.5 of which were through the air. The end result has been 29.5 points per game allowed, one of the worst marks in the Big XII and the No. 884 ranked ‘D’ in the nation.
Nebraska cost itself any chance of winning the BCS Championship last weekend when they blew it in a 9-6 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies on the road. It was a total meltdown for the Cornhuskers, who failed to score a touchdown and couldn’t beat a team that didn’t get into the end zone itself. QB Taylor Martinez has really been a wreck when the Cornhuskers were losing. However, this frosh knows that he needs to continue to take care of business to keep the Big Red nation on his side going into the postseason. Martinez has thrown for 1,435 yards and rushed for 974 more. He is fighting an ankle injury right now and is listed as questionable. The Black Shirts defense ranks in the Top 10 in the nation in both total defense (294.5 yards per game) and scoring defense (16.7 points per game). This would be a tremendous collapse for HC Bo Pelini and company if it were to end this way. The Huskers know that a win sets up a date in the Big XII Championship Game, while a loss probably would knock them out of the Top 25 and out of the BCS bowl picture.
Colorado has the hot hand right now, and it’s hard to ignore that. This is a ton of points for a team that is coming off of a terrible tussle to be laying, and we are confused as to why the NCAA football spread in this rivalry game is so high. We’ll take every point that we can get with the Buffs even though this game is in Lincoln.
