Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
(6-5, 4-7 ATS)
(5-6, 5-6 ATS)
A bowl bid might be on the line for both the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Georgia Bulldogs, adding even more intensity to a rivalry game that is always one of the best in the nation. These two will match up “Between the Hedges” in college football betting action on Saturday night.
The Ramblin’ Wreck are really hurting this year without QB Josh Nesbitt. A three game losing streak was just narrowly stopped last week against the Duke Blue Devils at home in a game that at least ensured a spot in a bowl game. QB Tevin Washington has only completed 36.4 percent of his passes for 275 yards and two scores against a pick in his limited time this year, and he only has 310 rushing yards. RB Anthony Allen has rumbled for 1,059 yards and five scores on the year, capitalizing on the fact that RB Jonathan Dwyer elected to go to the NFL a year early. The defense has to be what really is concerning to HC Paul Johnson right now. This is the unit that really brought this team to the ACC Championship last season, but this year, the squad is allowing 374.5 yards and 24.7 points per game, and though there have been a few solid games to point at, there have been some real duds as well. Without a big effort on this side of the ball, the Bulldogs are going to roll to victory on Saturday night.
The magnitude of this game for UGA absolutely cannot be understated. HC Mark Richt is clearly coaching for his job, as a loss will see him get fired, probably by the end of the weekend. The Dawgs will be heading to a bowl game with a ‘W’, but will be left home with just a 5-7 record, just like the Texas Longhorns were on Thursday night when they loss to the Texas A&M Aggies. QB Aaron Murray badly needs to keep on rolling in his freshman campaign to get some momentum going into next year regardless. He has completed 60.7 percent of his passes for 2,580 yards and 21 TDs against six INTs. RB Washaun Ealey has rushed for 633 yards and nine scores. Even though WR AJ Green missed the first four games of the season, he still leads the team in receptions (41), receiving yards (674), and total TDs (9). He is still absolutely the most feared player on the field at any given moment for the Bulldogs, and there might not be a better receiver in the SEC, perhaps for South Carolina’s WR Alshon Jeffrey.
We know that Georgia won this game last year, and we know that this game means so much more to the Dawgs than it does to the Yellow Jackets, but that ‘W’ last year in Atlanta for UGA has to incite the Ramblin’ Wreck. Remember that this G-Tech team came just one play away from beating the Virginia Tech Hokies on the road. Don’t be shocked if the exact same result happens on Saturday night, except that one play might bounce the other way to give the Jackets the upset.
