NCAA Football Betting Trends- Win Total Props

NCAA Football Betting Tends- Win Total Props

While you are probably very familiar with projected win totals for the NFL, many of the top sportbooks in the gaming industry also release money lines for the ‘over’ and ‘under’ on projected regular season win totals for many of the major college football programs in the nation.

One book with a vastly expanded number of teams to wager on is BetOnline. It has posted lines for not only every top 25 team in the country, but for a number of mid-major programs as well. The following is a look at a few teams that offer some tremendous value in their current numbers.

Temple Owls

Over 4.5 wins +150

Under 4.5 wins -190

This could be the biggest gift on the board. The Temple Owls move to the Big East this year after competing in the Mid-American Conference for the past several seasons. For years this was admittedly one of the worst football programs in Division IA, but it has made tremendous strides in its past few seasons in the MAC and has a combined record of 26-12 since 2009 with no less than eight wins in any one year.

The move to the Big East should not scare you off as that conference is no longer worthy of being considered a major. Looking at the Owls schedule this season, they open-up against D-IAA Villanova and play a very beatable Maryland in Week 2. Temple plays Rutgers and Syracuse at home and has Army on the road late in the season. Throw in an upset or two in the rest of its very vanilla conference schedule and it all adds up to more than 4.5 wins.

Florida International Golden Panthers

Over 7.5 wins -180

Under 7.5 wins +140

It is always a risk wagering the ‘over’ on a mid-major team especially when you have to pay a hefty premium on the money line if you are wrong, but in the case of Florida International it is worth it. This is another program that has been on the upswing in recent years and has been opened as +240 favorites to win the Sun Belt Conference title this season.

The Golden Panthers went 8-5 last season after winning seven games in 2010. The play in a conference with no dominant teams so there could be as many as seven victories right there. FIU’s non-conference schedule includes games against Duke and Akron which should easily take its total to nine wins on the year.

Central Florida Knights

Over 8 wins -235

Under 8 wins +172

A couple of weeks ago I would not have touched this bet, but with a recent turn of events that have the Knights facing a one-year ban from postseason play, the ‘under’ has suddenly become very attractive. Add in the fact that this is UCF’s last season in Conference-USA before an anticipated move the Big East in 2013 and you have to question how motivated will the Knights will be this season.

This team is not made up of pro players who get to paid play football for a living, but rather a bunch of college kids that just found out it will not be competing for a conference title or a chance to go to a bowl game at the end of the year. George Leary is a good football coach, but even he cannot work miracles with a team that is coming off an extremely disappointing 5-7 record last year and was hit with this news just weeks before the start of this season.
