Saturday, September 8
Georgia Bulldogs (-4) vs. Missouri Tigers
Georgia has been opened as the third-favorite to win the SEC this season at 11/2 and is listed at 18/1 to win a national title, so the expectations are running high in Athens this season. The Bulldogs get the first chance to welcome Missouri to the SEC after coming over from the Big 12. The Tigers could be in for a rude awakening as they will quickly discover that every week is a test in this conference.
Florida Gators (-3) vs. Texas A&M Aggies
Florida is coming off a very disappointing 3-5 campaign in conference play in 2011, but is ready to reload with a strong contingent of underclassman that are ready to bring back the winning tradition to this prominent program. It has been opened as the sixth-favorite to win the conference at 12/1. Texas A&M is the other Big 12 school that opted for a chance to play in the SEC. The Aggies went 7-6 last season and much like Missouri, could be in for an eye-opening experience this season against a much tougher level of competition.
Iowa State Cyclones vs. Iowa Hawkeyes (-5)
This early rivalry game pits the Big 12 verse the Big Ten in a battle for bragging rights in the state of Iowa. The Cyclones went 6-7 overall last season but did manage to sneak past Iowa 44-41 in overtime as 6.5-point home underdogs. The Hawkeyes went onto lose three of their final four games including a 31-14 loss to Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl to finish 7-6 on the year. This may a perfect time to cash-in on the revenge factor with Iowa hosting this season’s contest.
Nebraska Cornhuskers (-7.5) vs. UCLA Bruins
Nebraska opens its season at home against Southern Miss and will be looking to post a fast start after closing-out last season with three losses in its last five games including a 30-13 setback to South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl. UCLA continues to try and rebuild its football program back to some level of prominence after back-to-back losing seasons. The Bruins have been opened as 40/1 longshots to win the PAC-12 this season, so it still may take some time before they can successfully compete against the likes of the Big Ten’s Cornhuskers.
