NCAA Men’s Basketball Betting Previews- Miami Hurricanes vs North Carolina Tar Heels
Point spread: OFF
The Miami Hurricanes will look to make a statement in the ACC when they travel to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels at the Dean Smith Center this Tuesday night. The game is set to tip-off at 9 p.m. (ET) and it will be available on ESPN 3 and ESPN Full Court.
Miami has staked its claim as a team to watch in the ACC this season with an overall record of 9-5 straight-up, but it is just 5-5-1 against the spread. The Hurricanes did push No. 23 Virginia to its limits in a tough 52-51 loss as 7.5-point road favorites in this past Saturday’s conference opener. The total has gone 6-5 in their 11 games this season.
If Miami is going to have any chance to pull-off the upset on Tuesday night, it will need a tremendous effort from both Malcolm Grant and Durand Scott, who are each averaging over 13 points a game. Kenny Kadji has had a hot hand as well; averaging 10.9 points a game while shooting well over 50 percent from the floor and three-point range.
North Carolina opened its ACC schedule with an 83-60 pounding of Boston College on Saturday as a 30-point home favorite. It was the Tar Heels eighth win in-a-row SU, but they are just 4-4 ATS over the same span. Overall, North Carolina is 14-2 SU and 8-7 ATS. The total has gone 7-8 in the 15 games.
The Tar Heels continue to lead the nation in scoring with 87.8 points a game and are also ranked first in rebounds with an average of 46.8 a game. Harrison Barnes is shooting 50.2 percent from the field and averaging a team-high 17.6 points a game. John Henson and Tyler Zeller are each averaging over 14 points a game and combining for 18.7 rebounds per game.
The Hurricanes are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games in the ACC and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last eight games in the conference.
The Tar Heels are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four ACC games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last 10 games overall.
Head-to-head, the series is tied 3-3 in the last six meetings, and Miami covered as a 9.5-point road underdog is a tight 61-59 loss to North Carolina the last time they played. The Tar Heels should extend their record to 12-0 SU at home this season with the outright win, but stick with Miami to keep things close enough to cover a spread of eight points or more.
