The New York Giants travel to the Superdome to take on the New Orleans Saints this weekend to headline the NFL premier match-ups of week 6 in a battle of unbeaten teams. The Giants are no stranger to early season success and they were predicted to be among the best in the NFL this season. The Giants have jumped out to a quick 5-0 mark on the year, but their best win to date is over the Dallas Cowboys who have struggled against everyone.

However, the Giants can really make a statement this weekend if they find a way to foil the Saints who are one of the surprise stories of the year. New Orleans potent offense has helped them remain unbeaten this season with a record of 4-0. Drew Brees and company are also no stranger to success, but the team is getting much more help from the defense this season and it has made all the difference. New Orleans has some quality victories this season with big wins over Philadelphia and the Jets. The Saints are marching, but for how long?

New Orleans remains one of the top offensive powerhouses in the NFL for the 2nd straight year averaging 414 yards per game along with a league leading 36 points per game. QB Drew Brees has been sensational as always. Brees started the year red hot throwing 9 touchdowns in the first two games, but has not been able to get another passing touchdown in the last two games. Brees has completed a solid 67% on the season and has only forced two turnovers. However, the passing game is always going to be strong behind Brees’ arm. A big help this season that has helped the offense has been the ground game.

Tailbacks Mike Bell and Pierre Thomas are not posting any huge numbers, but they are being effective enough to give the Saints offense balance. Reggie Bush will also get some carries to help throw a wrench into defensive schemes and that is the difference in the Saints breakout season along with their defensive improvement. A year ago New Orleans ranked 28th in the NFL averaging just 99 yards per game on the ground, but rank 2nd this season with a very competitive 177 yards per game as a team. Defenses not only have to worry about Brees, but not have to respect the ground game which is a scary combination.

The Giants defense will get a lot of attention heading into week 6. After all if anyone is going to beat the Saints, it will have to be a good defensive team and there is not many better than the Giants. New York ranks 5th in total defense holding opponents to just 292 yards per game this season. The Giants also know how to get to the quarterback. A year after posting 42 for the season, the Giants have 14 already this year. If the defense can keep pressure on Brees this weekend and keep the Saints quarterback on the move, it will help keep the completions down and keep the offense from getting into any type of rhythm.

A lot of people did not know what to expect from QB Eli Manning this season after a rocky end to 2008 and the loss of WR Plaxico Burress. However not only has Manning played very well, but young receivers Steve Smith and Mario Manningham have really stepped up. Manning has thrown 10 touchdowns this season with just 2 picks while sporting a solid 64% completion percentage. Seven of those scores have come from Smith and Manningham who have also combined for over 800 yards thus far in the year. The passing game is off to their normal strong early season standard and the offense will definitely have to score some points this weekend if they are to beat the Saints.
