Game Overview

The New York Jets are fighting for their playoff lives this week, as they play in Monday Night Football betting action against the Tennessee Titans.

It’s amazing to think that New York has had all of these problems this year, yet the club is still just a game out of the playoffs with three to play. With the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers both facing tough games both this week and for the rest of the year, there is a real chance that going even 2-1 in these last three might be enough at least keep the Jets in consideration, and we would bet that winning out would put New York in the second season. QB Mark Sanchez is still leading the way for the Jets in spite of the fact that he has thrown for just 2,547 yards with 12 TDs and 13 INTs on the campaign. The Jets have only scored 14.3 points per game over the course of the last six games, and in that stretch, QB Greg McElroy led the team on a touchdown drive, and the defense directly put up nine points.

The Titans’ season is said and done with and has been for the past few weeks. The club has been so bad that Head Coach Mike Munchak could very well be on the chopping block, even in this, his second year with the team. Tennessee has outgained its foes in four straight games, but the team has lost five out of six and is just 1-5 ATS in those games as well. When it’s all said and done with, the Titans aren’t going to have the worst offense numbers in the world this year, but they aren’t going to be all that great either. RB Chris Johnson has averaged 4.7 yards per carry, a very respectable number by any standards, but he still only has four touchdowns and 1,037 yards. There are four receivers with at least 39 catches and at least 520 yards, but none have more than 59 catches (Kendall Wright) or 648 yards (Nate Washington). QB Jake Locker does have 213 rushing yards in his eight games, but he also only has 1,735 passing yards with nine scores and nine picks to boot.

Prediction

The Titans will be fired up to play on MNF this week, and the Jets are bound to give up some points again at some point. The defense isn’t good enough to carry this team as it has in the past, and that should lead Tennessee to victory in this one. Tennessee 17 – New York 14
