Yanks, Sox Finish First Half Sunday Night
The Yankees have taken two of the first three games of this four-game series, winning 10-8 Friday, then taking the opener of Saturday’s day/night double-header 6-1. Boston then won Saturday’s nightcap 9-5.
New York hit seven home runs Saturday, and now leads the Majors in dingers with 133.
Saturday night’s victory broke a five-game losing streak for the Sox.
The Yanks have won 25 of their last 35 games.
So New York, at 51-33, leads the AL East by six games over second-place Baltimore and 8.5 games over fourth-place Boston.
But the Sox, at 43-42, are also only 2.5 games out of the second AL Wild-Card spot.
The Yankees also lead Texas by a half-game in the fight for the best record in the American League.
Looking at Sunday’s starting pitchers, Lester is nine-for-17 on quality starts this year, but Boston is only 7-10 in games he’s started. His last time out Lester held the A’s to one run on four hits through 6 2/3 innings last Monday, walking one and whiffing nine. Over his last three starts he’s allowed eight earned runs in 20 2/3 innings.
Lester started five times vs. New York last year, and gave up 19 ER on 33 hits over 25 2/3 innings. The Sox lost three of those games.
Nova, meanwhile, is eight-for-16 on quality starts this season, and the Yanks are 12-4 in games he’s started. Most recently Nova gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings Monday vs. Tampa, and over his last six starts he’s allowed eight ER in 41 2/3 innings.
In two starts last year and one this year vs. Boston Nova has given up 10 ER on 22 hits in 16 2/3 innings. The Yanks managed to win two of those three games.
Boston has battled the injury bug all season long, and at the moment is playing without Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Will Middlebrooks.
The Red Sox are short favorites for Sunday night’s game, and they can also be had at +165 on the run line at Bookmaker.
In early betting on Sunday’s game about 60 percent of play on the side has come in on New York, and 60 percent of play on the total has come in on the ‘over.’
The Yanks lead the season series with Boston four games to one.

We’re not exactly sure who’s going to win this game, but considering the track records of the two starting pitchers vs. these opponents we like the ‘over.’
