NFL 2012 Player Props – Most Rushing Yards

NFL Betting Trends- Most Rushing Yards 2012 Regular Season

It is almost time to get ready for another NFL season as training camps will start opening later this month. Sportsbook.ag has you covered as far as player prop bet odds for the 2012 regular season including which player will rack-up the most rushing yards this year. The following is a look at a few of the top contenders to accomplish this feat along with their current odds.

Arian Foster- Houston Texans +350

Foster earned the rushing title in 2010 with 1,616 yards on 327 attempts for an average of 4.9 yards a carry. In the NFL, backs that run the ball that many times a season usually do not last too long. Last season, Foster’s numbers dropped off with just 1,224 yards but he still carried the ball 278 times for an average of 4.4 yards an attempt. With quarterback Matt Schaub fully recovered from a foot injury that ended his season in early November, much of the emphasis on offense will revert back to wide receiver Andre Johnson and the passing game. Foster will still get his carries, but the value in his odds is just not there.

Ray Rice - Baltimore Ravens +450

Rice always remains a solid choice to rack-up quite a few rushing yards each season as the Ravens remain committed to moving the ball on the ground. He rushed for 1,220 yards in 2010, which was the 10th most and came in ranked second in 2011 with 1,364. He averaged 4.7 yards per carry last season, which was much better than his 4.0 average in 2010, but still down from the 5.3 yards he averaged in 2009 when he rushed for 1,339 yards. Rice has been very consistent over the past few years, but you do not see him rushing for the amount of yards it will take to lead the league.

Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville Jaguars +500

Last season’s leading rusher in the NFL ran for 1,606 yards on an amazing 343 carries. This followed his 299 carries for 1,324 yards in 2010. One thing that is for sure, as long as Jones-Drew remains healthy, he will get more than his fair share of touches on a team that ended the regular season ranked dead-last in passing. The addition of wide receiver Justin Blackmon with the fifth overall pick in the draft will do little to change this situation in the short run, so the value in Jones-Drew’s odds to win another rushing title remains high.

LeSean McCoy – Philadelphia Eagles +800

McCoy had a break-out season in 2011 with 1,309 yards rushing on 273 carries. Eagles head coach Andy Reid, by his own admission, felt that McCoy ran the ball a bit too much in 2011, so you can expect those numbers to drop in 2012. McCoy also had 315 yards receiving last season as compared to 1,080 yards rushing and 592 yards receiving in 2010. It is safe to assume that his numbers in 2012 will probably more closely resemble his from 2010 when he ran the ball 207 times and had 78 receptions. This in turn, saps a good deal of the value from him winning a rushing title this season.

Top Value Pick

Michael Turner- Atlanta Falcons +2000

There is little question that Turner has been a workhorse for Atlanta over the past two seasons with 334 carries in 2010 for 1,371 yards, which were third-most in the league and 301 carries for 1,340 yards last season, which were also the third-most of all running backs. Depending on how much he has left in the tank, this should be another banner season for the 5-foot-10, 247 pound back. This will be his ninth season in the NFL, which is rare for a running back that has carried the ball as much as he has, but Turner still offers some tremendous value at +2000 odds.
