NFL Pick: Washington Redskins vs New York Giants

Washington Redskins vs. New York Giants Gambling Odds from JustBet

NFL Betting Favorite: Giants -6.5

Over/Under: 46.5

The NFC East has been the most fluid division in the NFL. The Redskins actually were at the top of the division after the first few weeks of the year, but now they are in the cellar. New York jumped to a nice lead with a 6-2 record, but then they proceeded to lose their next four games. The Giants fourth quarter comeback last weekend in Dallas tied them with the Cowboys for the top spot in the NFC East. Can New York keep the momentum going into this weekend?

Rex Grossman is back at quarterback for the Redskins. While Grossman does throw far too many interceptions, he does help move the offense up and down the field better than John Beck. Mike Shanahan’s teams normally are great at running the football, but the Redskins actually rank second worst in the league in rushing offense. Roy Helu did have a very good game last weekend, and the team is hoping he can do that on a more consistent basis. Helu is a solid receiver out of the backfield, and Grossman likes to check it down to him. Fred Davis is the team’s leading receiver. Santana Moss is back and healthy, which gives Washington a deep threat once again.

The Washington defense has improved this year. London Fletcher has already racked up 76 tackles this year. Ryan Kerrigan leads the team with 7.5 sacks, and he and Brian Orakpo form a nice pass rushing tandem for the Redskins. The two safeties are fairly inexperienced, but Washington’s cornerbacks are very good in man coverage.

Eli Manning is quietly putting together a very nice season. Manning currently has the highest quarterback rating of his career at 95.5. Manning has thrown for 4,105 yards already this year, which is a career high. The Giants young core of receivers has really helped Manning spread the ball around this season. Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks give Manning two great young deep threats on the outside. Cruz leads the team with 68 catches, but Nicks is right behind with 65. Jake Ballard has stepped up with some key catches in recent weeks from the tight end spot. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs both have 130 carries this year, but they have struggled to get a consistent running game going.

The Giants front four are the best in the business at pressuring the quarterback, but the defense as a whole has struggled this year. The secondary has been a major disappointment so far this season. New York is allowing 264 yards per game through the air. Jason Pierre-Paul has an impressive 12.5 sacks already this year. Antrel Rolle leads the team in tackles from the safety spot, and that is never a good sign. The Giants are giving up 27 points per game.

The Redskins jumped on the Giants in the first meeting early this year, but I think the Giants get their revenge in this one. Look for Eli and company to keep their momentum going from last week’s win.
