NFL Trends: Baltimore Ravens @ Jacksonville Jaguars Betting Trends & Injury Report
The Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars are set to square off in Monday Night Football betting action this week at Ever Bank Field. But before you make your NFL picks for the big game on Monday, check out some of the great NFL betting trends that we have for the duel!
Baltimore Ravens Notes: The Ravens have been perfect this season at home, going 3-0 SU and ATS. However, they’ve been a totally different team on the road to say the least. They put up their worst game of the year at LP Field against the Tennessee Titans, but they came back the very next week to pummel the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome. If the latter team shows up on Monday, this game should have another crippling result. All four of Baltimore’s wins have come by at least 15 points. The Ravens have also brutalized teams with a losing record of late, going 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games in this situation.
The Jags have proven to have a relatively stingy secondary of late, which could mean great things for RB Ray Rice. Rice is on a clip to rumble for a total of nearly 2,300 yards between rushing and receiving this year, and he is surely going to have well over 100 total yards in this one as well. Rice has a pair of 100+ yard rushing games this year, and though Jacksonville’s defense ranks No. 8 in the league, the offense is ranked dead last, which should give the Ravens plenty of offensive opportunities.
There are plenty of question marks this week for the Ravens, but none of them should be all that devastating. WR Lee Evans has been out for the past few weeks, and he has a chance of coming back on MNF, while others that are questionable include rookie DB Jimmy Smith, G Ben Grubbs, and DB Chris Carr. S Tom Zbikowski is doubtful with a concussion.
Jacksonville Jaguars Notes: The Jags already look and feel like a team that is just playing out the string to the end of the season before they try to rework their entire team. It is clear that Head Coach Jack Del Rio is a sitting duck, especially after losing five straight games. In that bunch, only last week’s 17-13 loss at the Pittsburgh Steelers resulted in a cover, and even in that game, Jacksonville was thoroughly dominated in the first half before showing a pulse in the second half.
Poor QB Blaine Gabbert… The rookie has already had to deal with the defense of the New York Jets and that of the Steelers, and now, he gets perhaps the toughest test in the league against Baltimore. The Ravens are going to be on his back all day long, just like Pittsburgh was. The rookie out of Mizzou only threw for 109 yards on a woeful 46.2 completion percentage, and he averaged just 4.2 yards per attempt. If there’s good news, it’s that he hasn’t thrown a pick in back to back games, but we’d be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that that streak comes to a close this week.
Relatively speaking, this is a healthy team. Courtney Greene, Kassim Osgood, and Jason Spitz are all dealing with nagging leg injuries, while RB Montell Owens has a knee injury as well. Owens is really the only notable knock of the bunch. If he can’t go, it’ll only be RBs Maurice Jones-Drew and Deji Karim going against the Ravens on the ground.
Head To Head: This has absolutely not been the prettiest series in the world for the Jags in their relatively brief team history. They have only knocked off Baltimore one time in four meetings since the two split divisions in 2001, and even dating back to 2000, this was a lopsided series. The Ravens are 5-2-3 ATS in their last 10 in this series. The most recent meeting was a 27-7 victory for Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium in 2008, but the previous meeting was Jacksonville’s lone win of the decade in this rivalry, a 30-3 romp at home.
