Upsets are a key part of the NFL season and week-to-week they come in the most unsuspecting games with rather large point spreads. The same could be said for week 12 in the NFL. A week ago, I had the Dallas Cowboys on upset alert and they were a missed field goal in overtime away from losing to the Washington Redskins.
This week the upset to watch for is in the AFC East, when the Buffalo Bills take on the New York Jets.
The New York Jets are reeling and have not won a game since the beat the Buffalo Bills 27-11 three week ago. The Bills are not exactly playing great football, but they are not imploding internally like the Jets are.
This week in practice Rex Ryan took Mark Sanchez out of the first team reps and replaced him with journeyman Mark Brunell. There is not going to be a change at quarterback and this was done to motivate Sanchez, but will backfire on Ryan as this move has obviously upset Sanchez.
The Bills are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games as a road underdog of 3.5-10.0 and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in Week 12. The Jets are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss and have a tough time pulling out of slumps.
In this series, the road team is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 meetings, the underdog is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 meetings, and the Bills are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in New York.
The Bills can play toe-to-toe with the New York Jets and have a realistic shot of getting the outright victory. The Buffalo Bills are the upset of the week in the NFL.
