NHL Week 3 Betting Report
There are plenty of solid matchups in the National Hockey League this week; beginning with today’s game featuring the Detroit Red Wings at Boston. Jimmy Howard is expected to get the start for the Wings, who could be an attractive underdog at +130. Boston took it to the Red Wings on Oct. 5 and expect Detroit to give a good effort in this game. The Red Wings may not have all the skill players that they had several years ago, but they still have some pride and will come out more focused.
Tuesday sees two of the hottest teams in the league face off, as San Jose visits St. Louis in a battle of unbeatens. Antti Niemi hasn’t had much luck with the Blues, owning a 5-6 record, while Jaroslav Halak is 4-2 against San Jose with a pair of shutouts. The Blues will be a small favorite in this one and could be worth a small shot.
Two struggling teams do battle in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, as the New York Rangers visit the Capitals. The normally consistent Henrik Lundqvist has not been his usual self this year and you have to wonder if the smaller equipment is taking a toll. Opposing fans have always ridiculed Lundqvist for the size of his equipment and it may be mental more than anything. This could be a decent over wager depending on the price.
Two up-and-coming teams do battle in Long Island on Thursday, with Edmonton taking on the New York Islanders. Both teams have plenty of young talent and this one could be a shootout, so the over could be worth a look, particularly if you can get plus money at over 6.
The Blues and the Chicago Blackhawks have a rematch of last week’s game and once again the under could be the way to go between two teams who have played tight games in the best. Corey Crawford traditionally is better at home than on the road. Last week’s game ended up with the Blues taking a 3-2 decision and the Blackhawks could very well turn the tables on them at home as a relatively small favorite.
Saturday, two teams who genuinely don’t like each other do battle in Newark, with the Rangers visiting the New Jersey Devils. The Devils have lost several close games to begin the season, which is to be expected with as many new faces as they have, and could be an attractive short favorite in this spot. The Rangers are still struggling with a new coach and a new system.
