Friday September 18th, 9:00PM Eastern
Betus.com betting line – Boise State -7, 53.5 O/U
Fresno State will battle with the no. 10 ranked Boise State Broncos this Friday night from Bulldog Stadium. Luckily for Fresno State the game is not on the Broncos blue field where they have lost just two games in the last decade. However, the Bulldogs will host the battle giving more hope to their chances of pulling off the upset. Boise State made headlines on college football’s opening night by controlling Oregon for 60 minutes to hold on for a 19-8 victory. Of course the end of the game was highlight by LaGarrette Blount’s “punch seen around the world.” Still, if we learned anything out of that game it is that the Broncos have a very good team.
The Broncos return the majority of the WAC’s best defense from a year ago and they will try and shutdown the Bulldogs passing offense this Friday in attempt to continue their stand on top of the conference standings. Fresno State put up a valiant effort to upset Wisconsin, but fell short 34-31. The Bulldogs look to build off their impressive performance and record their first big win of the season with they target the Broncos this Friday. Junior quarterback Ryan Colburn has performed well through the first few games. Colburn had just 5 passing attempts in his career entering the season, but has now thrown for 450 yards completing 60% of passing equaling 5 touchdowns. The only concern with the Bulldogs new found faith behind center is that he has allowed some turnovers including 3 picks last weekend which will have to be avoided this Friday.
Boise State pounded Miami (Ohio) last week in a 48-0 shutout. The Broncos have averaged 400 yards per game in their first two outings. QB Kellen Moore has been stellar directing the Broncos passing game. Moore has completed 63.6% of his passes for over 500 yards in just 2 games. The talented sophomore also has 5 touchdowns through the air compared to just 1 interception. Look for receivers Titus Young and Austin Pettis to play a big factor in the passing game. However, it will still be the Broncos defense that leads them this year. Boise State allowed just 9 points against a dangerous Oregon offense before shutting out Miami last week. Their feisty defense gives them every opportunity to win every game this season. Boise State is another one of the teams in boats like BYU, Utah, and others who hope to run the table and gain a BCS Bowl berth by the end of the year.
In last year’s meeting between the two teams it was not even close; Boise State routed the Bulldogs on their home turf 61-10. In fact, the pages in history have to be turned back to 2005 to find the last meeting Fresno State has been victorious over the Broncos. In that stretch, Boise State has won 7 of the last 8 games in this annual meeting. Fresno State was on the verge of some big wins last year, but could not get the job done. Bulldogs fans are anticipating finally get over the hump to score the big victory. Also, in betting terms Boise State has conquered 7 of the last 8 games ATS against Boise State while the under has fallen in 4 of the last 6 games. If history is any indication, Boise State will roll. However despite what history shows, the Broncos passing game will just be way too much in this game.
Pick – Boise State -7
