The no. 7 Boise State Broncos continue their path for an unbeaten season this Friday night when they travel to take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in a conference match-up. The Bulldogs have now dropped 2 straight games and are starring at 2 straight top 10 opponents on the schedule starting with Boise State this Friday night. Louisiana Tech must get things turned around quickly to avoid not even having the chance to have a winning season.
The Bulldogs last two losses have been by a mere 3 points combined, but they seek to be on the winning end this week as they attempt to upset Boise State on the Friday night stage. The Broncos along with teams like TCU, Cincinnati, and Iowa are looking to bust down the BCS this year. However even if the Broncos find a way to end the season without any losses a National Championship is highly unlikely due to their schedule. However Boise State has legitimate chance to earn a BCS Bowl Game berth, but one loss could destroy those opportunities.
On other hand if Louisiana Tech is to pull off any upsets, they will for one need a lot of help from their defense. The Bulldogs have a well respected defense in the conference, but the Broncos are averaging 41 points per game. If the defense can at least slow down the Broncos, perhaps they can use their running game to control tempo. The Bulldogs are averaging 178 yards per game with large help coming from senior running back Daniel Porter. Porter has racked up 644 yards and 7 scores thus far this year and he will be critical in the Bulldogs success. QB Ross Jenkins is also a solid thrower. Jenkins has 11 scores and just 4 picks on the season while completing 60% passing. Jenkins will also need to be a big contributor this Friday night as the Bulldogs will need the entire offense to pull together a complete performance.
The Broncos offense is primed for success behind quarterback Kellen Moore. Moore ranks 2nd in all of college football with 24 passing touchdowns and has 1,905 yards to his credit as well. The even more impressive statistic is that Moore has just 2 interceptions on 227 attempts this season and that has helped Boise State maintain a +1.25 turnover ratio on the season. The Bulldogs defense is fairly strong in the secondary meaning Moore may not post the huge Friday night numbers as expected. However, the Louisiana Tech defensive line is vulnerable. Therefore, running back Jeremy Avery could be on the verge of a big night. Avery has been rather quiet in recent weeks, but has 636 yards on the year. However, expect Avery to be a bigger presence this Friday.
Betting Trends –
Boise State is 6-1 ATS this season and a perfect 3-0 against the books in conference play. Louisiana Tech is just 3-4 ATS and is 0-2 against the books as more than 10 point underdogs. In the last 9 meetings between the two schools, Boise State holds a 7-2 SU advantage. However, the Bulldogs hold the slight edge at 5-4 ATS in that same stretch of games.
Pick – Louisiana Tech +21
