NCAA Football – Week 14
The 2012 MAC Championship Game takes place on Friday night at Ford Field, and college football betting fans will love to dive right into the duel between the Northern Illinois Huskies and the Kent State Golden Flashes.
When you talk about Northern Illinois, you have to consider everything that QB Jordan Lynch has been able to do this year. Lynch has now thrown for 2,750 yards and 23 TDs and rushed for 1,611 yards and 16 TDs, and he has a real chance after this game and the team’s bowl game to have at least 2,000 rushing yards, at least 3,000 passing yards, at least 20 rushing TDs, and at least 25 passing TDs, and that’s saying a whole heck of a lot. This really is a one man wrecking crew, as Lynch has touched the ball on 554 of the 846 plays that the team has run this year. Basically all by himself, Lynch has led the team to 482.6 yards and 40.5 points per game, and virtually no one has been able to hold him down all year long. This isn’t a one-dimensional team, though. The Huskies have held four of their last six foes down to seven points or fewer, and the team ranks 15th in the nation in scoring defense at 17.5 points per game allowed.
Kent State wrapped up the year at 11-1 as well though, and it could be playing for a spot in the BCS if enough things go right in the final week of the year, just as Northern Illinois could as well. The difference here is that this Kent State team isn’t all that “flashy.” The club was crushed by the Kentucky Wildcats earlier this year, but since that point, it is 10-0 SU and 9-1 ATS. It’s all about the ground game offensively for the Golden Flashes. RB Dri Archer is the only man on the team that has more than 27 receptions, and he is the leading receiver (458 yards), leading rusher (1,337 yards), and leading TD man (18 scores). Of course, Archer isn’t the primary ball carrier on the team either. That title goes to RB Trayion Durham. Durham has 236 carries for 1,176 yards and 14 scores this season as well, and he also had 140 receiving yards to go with 14 receptions. The defense has also done a great job in this run for Kent, but one of the top rushing defenses in the MAC is going to have its work cut out for it against one of the top rushers in the nation.
This is going to be a heck of a game. Last year, the Huskies just blew the heck out of the Golden Flashes, but this could be a very different situation. The winner of this one really might be in the BCS when push comes to shove, and we think that the Flashes are going to figure out how to pull out the upset to at least give the BCS something to consider.
