Two teams formerly of the Big East Conference will get together for the first time as members of the ACC Monday night when the Syracuse Orange will play host to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 7:00 p.m. ET inside the Carrier Dome.

The Fighting Irish got a pivotal 76-73 overtime victory over the Boston College Eagles on Saturday to run their conference record to 3-6 SU in ACC play. The win stopped a three game slide for Notre Dame in which it had taken losses to the Florida State Seminoles, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and Virginia Cavaliers. Irish G Eric Atkins led the team with 24 points, three rebounds, and three assists playing all 45 minutes of the game. Atkins averages 13.8 points per game this season and has averaged 15.8 points per game in conference play thus far. In its L/10 games the Fighting Irish has failed to cover the spread in eight of those contests, but one of their covers was a 79-77 upset of the Duke Blue Devils at home. Notre Dame C Garrick Sherman has led the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game and eight boards per game. Sherman was quiet in Saturday’s win scoring just seven points and grabbing four rebounds. The Irish figure to need a big night from both of their best players to have a chance against the Orange.

Syracuse is coming off a game that head coach Jim Boeheim called the best ever played in the Carrier Dome as his Orange defeated Duke 91-89 in overtime in front of a record crowd of 35,046. The game played out like a Final Four contest as Orange F C.J. Fair put up a season high 28 points to go with five boards and two blocks in a performance that had to have NBA scouts salivating for his services next season. Fair is averaging 17.2 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game. Syracuse also got a huge outing from F Jerami Grant who scored eight of his 24 points in the overtime period including three thunderous dunks. The win brought the ‘Cuse to 21-0 SU on the year, it is the best start in school history for the No. 2 team in the country. The Orange is 11-5-1 ATS so far, but just 4-4 ATS on their home floor. The Orange allowed Duke to shoot 15-of-36 from three point range on Saturday so they will need a solid defensive effort against a Notre Dame team that shoots a respectable 36 percent from three.

Prediction:

It has been almost a year to the day since these two last met at the Carrier Dome and Syracuse took a 63-47 win on its home floor in that game. The Orange may start slow in this game, but will rely on a tough defensive effort to scratch out another win inside the ACC. Fair had 18 points and 10 rebounds to register a double-double in last year’s meeting, we look for him to repeat that performance for a big victory over the Fighting Irish. Syracuse 71 – Notre Dame 58
