NCAA Football – Week 13
The first spot in the BCS National Championship Game will be locked up on Saturday night if the Notre Dame Fighting Irish can beat the USC Trojans in college football betting action in Los Angeles.
You can say all that you want about the Golden Domers, but they are one of the two teams in America that haven’t lost a game this year. The other, the Ohio State Buckeyes, aren’t eligible to go to a bowl game this year, thus leaving Notre Dame with a shot to be the undisputed National Champions if they can win these last two games. Of course, being the No. 1 team in the country has been a curse the last two weeks, as both the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Kansas State Wildcats have lost with that distinction in back to back weeks. QB Everett Golson continues to be amongst the best quarterbacks in clutch spots in the nation, and this defense behind Heisman Trophy candidate LB Manti Te’o is still one of the best in America. The Irish have allowed one team in the last nine weeks to score more than 14 points against them, and that was the Pitt Panthers in overtime a few weeks back. Since that point though, it’s nothing but field goals that have been scored against the Fighting Irish, two by the Boston College Eagles, and none by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
USC’s season is essentially said and done with, knowing that it already has four losses, it doesn’t have a chance to win the Pac-12, doesn’t have a chance to go to the Rose Bowl or the BCS, and the best that it can do is play the role of the spoiler for the Irish. Even QB Matt Barkley will miss his final home game of his career after hurting his shoulder at the end of last week’s game. The USC defense has been a wreck all season long, and the offense has massively underachieved. WR Marqise Lee has been just about the only bright spot for the club all year long. Lee is going to be catching passes from the man that is the future of Men of Troy, QB Max Vittek, who is just a redshirt freshman. Vittek hasn’t been in live action all that much, let alone against a team that has a defense this good in a spot this big.
There is a lot of talk that the Trojans can win this game, but we just aren’t buying it. Notre Dame is the better of these two teams, and there isn’t a backup quarterback that is going to be able to get the job done against this defense. The Golden Domers should win this one by at least a touchdown to move on to the BCS National Championship Game. Notre Dame 28 – USC 16
