The Texas Rangers are rolling again as they continue their quest for a third-straight American League pennant.
The Rangers will shoot for their fifth straight victory when they host the Oakland A’s for third game of a four-game set Saturday night (7:15 pm Eastern, Fox) at The Ballpark in Arlington.
Texas extended its current winning streak to four games with a 4-3 victory over Oakland Friday night, scoring all four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, the last three on a bases-loaded triple by Craig Gentry.
The Rangers rallied to win as -190 favorites Friday, and that game stayed ‘under’ its total of 11.
Texas took the opener of this series Thursday night 7-6.
So the Rangers, at a ML-best 49-29, lead the AL West by five and a half games over the second-place Angels, with the 37-41 A’s 12 games back.
A pair of lefty rookies will throw Saturday night as Tommy Milone (8-5, 3.83) gets the start for the A’s against Martin Perez (0-0, 13.50) for Texas.
Milone is eight-for-15 on quality starts this season, and Oakland is 9-6 in games he’s started. In his most recent outing Milone held Seattle scoreless on seven hits through seven innings, and just before that he threw a complete-game three-hitter in beating the Dodgers.
On the season Milone has allowed 91 hits in 96 innings, walked 24 and struck out 57.
In his one start this season vs. Texas Milone gave up four earned runs on nine hits over seven innings of a 4-1 A’s loss back on May 16.
On the other side of this pitching matchup Perez made his ML debut Wednesday against Detroit and gave up four runs, one earned, in two-thirds of an inning. He’s getting the start Saturday because the Rangers have a couple of regular starters on the DL.
In 84 innings this Spring at triple-A Round Rock the 21-year-old Perez allowed 78 hits, posted an unimpressive 49/38 K/BB ratio and a 4.59 ERA.
As of early Saturday morning most online sportsbooks were holding off on lining Saturday’s game because of the change in the announced starting pitcher for Texas.
These two teams have split eight games so far this season.

As mentioned above this game had not yet been lined as of mid-Saturday morning. When the numbers do come out our guess is the total on this game will be high, maybe even upwards of 12. Nonetheless, with two young pitchers going on a hot night in Arlington, we’ll back the ‘over’ in this game.
