The New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears meet in one of the most anticipated games of the week in the NFL. New Orleans comes into this one unbeaten, and the Bears enter with a 3-1 record. Both of these are teams with very lofty expectations for this season. Can home field advantage help the Bears give the Saints their first loss of the season?

Game Overview:

What a difference a year makes! The New Orleans Saints were in the middle of the “Bountygate” mess a year ago at this time. This year, the Saints are rolling right along at 4-0. Sean Payton is back on the sideline, and that makes a huge difference for the team. Payton is one of the best coaches in the league, but I think it is much more than just him being back on the sideline. The Saints didn’t have the same kind of chemistry last season, and it showed up in their play. This version of the Saints was well-prepared for the season without any drama off the field.

The Saints passing attack is second only to Denver when it comes to passing yards so far this year.  Drew Brees has so many weapons to throw the ball to, and it is virtually impossible for the defense to focus on all of them. The Saints running game still isn’t very good, but Darren Sproles is one of the most versatile running backs in the NFL because of his great ability to catch it out of the backfield. Rob Ryan has done a great job with this defense. This defense was the worst in the NFL last year, and they are allowing only 13.8 points per game this season.

Chicago started the season out 3-0 before dropping last week’s game at Detroit. The Bears tried to come back late in that game, but they had fallen behind by too much to get all the way back. Chicago is unbeaten at home so far this year, but both of their wins at home were come from behind wins. The Bears have to figure out a way to play better in the first three quarters of the game.

Chicago’s offense is averaging 31.8 points per game so far this year. They have benefited from great field position quite a bit, but the offense is definitely performing better than they did last season. Matt Forte is averaging 4.6 yards per carry this season. Jay Cutler has thrown six interceptions already this year, but he has topped 1,000 yards passing as well. The Bears have more weapons on the outside now, and that has helped Cutler as he spreads the ball around. Defensively, the Bears are giving up 384 yards per game this year. They have yet to hold an opponent to less than 21 points this season.

Free Pick: Saints +1

The Saints are a team on a mission this year, and the Bears are fortunate to be 3-1 right now. New Orleans has a much better offense, and this defense continues to impress. I like the Saints here.
