NFL Betting Favorite: Broncos -10.5
The Philadelphia Eagles were the talk of the NFL after their week one win in Washington, but two straight losses at home have raised a lot of questions about this team. The Denver Broncos have annihilated everyone in their way so far this year. Most people would say that Denver looks like the best team in the NFL so far in 2013. Expect a lot of fireworks between two high-octane offenses.
Chip Kelly’s fast-paced offense has brought quite a bit of enthusiasm to the Eagles franchise, but it remains to be seen whether this style of play will help this team win the division and do some damage in the playoffs. Their win in week one looked good at the time, but Washington is now 0-3. The Eagles defense let them down in week two, and a multitude of turnovers led to their demise in week three against the Chiefs. They definitely can’t afford to make those mistakes this week in Denver.
Philadelphia is number one in the NFL in rushing yards so far this year. Shady McCoy is one of the best backs in the league, and he fits into Kelly’s offense very well. Mike Vick has been good running the ball this year, but his turnovers last game really hurt the team’s chance to win. Vick is going to have to cut down on the turnovers. The Eagles are dead last in the NFL in total defense. They have allowed at least 26 points in each of their games so far this year. The bad news for them is that the Denver offense will definitely be the best offense they have gone against this season.
The Denver Broncos made quick work of the Oakland Raiders on Monday night in Denver. Peyton Manning put on a show once again on Monday Night Football. Manning didn’t throw seven touchdown passes this time, but he did finish 32 out of 37 passing, which was his highest single game completion rating of his career. Manning now has 12 touchdown passes and no interceptions this year. Not surprisingly, Denver’s offense is first in the NFL in total offense so far this season. The Broncos are averaging 375 yards per game through the air. Manning has found two very reliable targets in Wes Welker and Julius Thomas. Denver is scoring an astounding 42.3 points per game. Can anyone slow down this offense?
Defensively, the Broncos are first in the NFL against the run. Opponents have rushed for only 43.3 yards per game against the Broncos this season. The secondary has had a lot more trouble, giving up 327 yards per game through the air. On the other hand, it is important to remember that opponents have been airing it out often against this defense because Manning and the offense have been putting them in a hole early on. Champ Bailey is listed as questionable for this Sunday’s game.
Free Pick: Broncos -10.5
The Broncos have been blasting teams in the first three weeks of the year, and I expect more of the same here. The Eagles will get their points, but I don’t see them slowing down Manning and the Broncos offense at all.
