Thursday NBA betting action will feature the east’s Chicago Bulls playing host to the west’s Houston Rockets at 7:30 ET on TNT inside the United Center.
The Rockets had a five game winning streak snapped on Tuesday in a 106-98 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road. After trailing 56-41 at the half, Houston outscored the Thunder 57-50 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome 42 points from Oklahoma City superstar F Kevin Durant. Houston G James Harden had 28 points, dished out nine assists, and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss. Unfortunately for the Rockets, C Dwight Howard was quiet scoring just nine points connecting on 4-of-12 attempts from the floor and was his usual nightmare 1-of-6 from the foul line. Harden has been on a tear his L/10 games averaging 29.2 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game. The Rockets have been a good road team this season going 18-13 SU and 16-15 ATS in those games. Houston’s 44-20 SU record is good enough for fourth place in the Western Conference right now as it sits just a half game behind the Los Angeles Clippers. On Thursday the Rockets will be hoping to showcase the NBA’s No. 3 ranked offense that scores 106.5 points per game against a stingy Bulls defensive unit.
The Bulls were never in contention Tuesday in a 104-96 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on their home floor. Chicago embarrassed itself in the first half as it got behind 61-33 at halftime as San Antonio cruised to victory handing the Bulls their second loss in the last three home contests. Once again without the services of G Derrick Rose this season the Bulls have had to rely on unusual sources for offensive output. On Tuesday it was G D.J. Augustin who came off the bench and contributed 24 points and four assists to try to get his team back in the game. Augustin is a strong sixth man for Chicago averaging 12.1 points per game. Make no mistake about it, the Windy City boys are a defensive squad that ranks No. 2 in the league giving up just 92.3 points per game. The defense is anchored by C Joakim Noah who averages 11.3 boards and 1.5 blocks per game. A tough defensive effort in this game is just what the Bulls will need to keep it close with the Rockets who love to get out and run. Chicago is 16-15 ATS on its home floor thus far and it will be an ‘underdog’ in this game.
The Rockets have been hot averaging 108.9 points per game in their L/10 contests. They last saw the Bulls on December 18th, 2013 and they blew them away 109-94 in Houston. Howard and Harden combined for 42 points in that game and they should have another big outing in this contest. We expect the Rockets to run right through the Bulls and run their record against Eastern Conference foes to 21-3 SU on the season. Houston 106 – Chicago 95
