Wisconsin Badgers vs. Oregon Ducks Gambling Odds from Bookmaker
NCAA FB Betting Favorite: Oregon -5.5
The Rose Bowl isn’t called “The Granddaddy of them All” for no reason. This is always one of the very best matchups of the bowl season, and this year is no different. Wisconsin was clearly the class of the Big Ten this year, and they will travel to Pasadena to take on the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks nearly picked up a national title last year, and they are an extremely dangerous team. Look for plenty of excitement in this one!
Wisconsin lost two games this year, and both of them were lost in the final minute. In back-to-back weeks the Badgers lost heart breakers against Michigan State and Ohio State. Wisconsin rallied to win their last five games of the season. The Badgers have an extremely balanced offense that is tough to stop. Russell Wilson was marvelous as the team’s signal caller this year. Wilson put up Heisman Trophy type numbers including 31 touchdown passes compared to just three interceptions. He also averaged 4.4 yards per carry on the ground. Montee Ball finished fourth in the Heisman ballot this year, and his numbers were amazing. Ball racked up 32 touchdown carries, and he averaged 6.4 yards per carry. James White is a terrific backup tailback. The Badgers have one of the best offensive lines in the country. Wisconsin put up 44.6 points per game this year.
The Badgers defense was expected to be the weakness of this team, but they were very good this year. How good was this group? The Badgers finished eighth in the nation in total defense. The secondary was spectacular all year. The pass defense gave up just 155 yards per game through the air. Wisconsin was a bit vulnerable against the run at times. Michigan State and Ohio State both beat the Badgers front seven in the running game. Wisconsin gave up only 17 points per contest.
Chip Kelly’s Oregon Ducks once again had one of the most exciting offenses in the country. This is a quick strike offense that is capable of beating you through the air or on the ground. LaMichael James ran for 1,674 yards despite missing some time with an injury this year. James is clearly one of the top runners in the nation. Kenjon Barner averaged 6.3 yards per carry this year, and he would start on almost every other team in the country. Darron Thomas threw 30 touchdowns compared to just six interceptions this year. Freshman De’Anthony Thomas was magnificent in his first year with the Ducks. Thomas is in the same mold of a Percy Harvin, and he is capable of breaking it every time he touches the ball. Oregon averaged 46.2 points per game this year.
The Ducks defense is the main reason this team isn’t back in the title game again this year. The team lost a couple top linebackers from last year’s squad, and it definitely showed this season. This is a defense that allowed 382 yards per game. Three of their last four opponents scored at least 30 points. This defense will be tested in a big way by the Wisconsin offense.
Wisconsin narrowly missed winning the Rose Bowl last year and I expect them to be very hungry. Look for them to either win this or keep it very close.
