Matchup: Buffalo Sabres vs. Boston Bruins
Date/Time: April 17th, 7:30 PM ET
Television: NBC Sports Network
Moneyline: Boston -205
For the first time in Beantown since the Boston Marathon bombings, the city will be the epicenter of a sports betting battle. In this case, the team that essentially got kicked out of town for the day, the Boston Bruins will get a chance to take on the Buffalo Sabres in a game that should be played with heavy hearts all night long.
The Sabres though, have to keep their eye on the prize, and that means winning this game and getting one step closer to the playoffs. Coming into the game today, Buffalo is four points off of the pace of the New York Rangers, who have a game in hand. Winning each of these last five games is absolutely pivotal for getting into the second season. If there is any chance, anything less than at least eight, and perhaps all 10 available points would leave the Sabres at home. They aren’t playing bad hockey at the moment, though we know that playing games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Philadelphia Flyers at home is a heck of a lot different than playing here in Beantown in one of the most emotional games of the season. That being said, G Jhonas Enroth has a hot hand, stopping all but one shot that he has faced in these last two outings. The offense finally picked it up last time out against Tampa Bay, scoring three times. Buffalo only netted three goals in its previous three games combined prior to that point.
The Bruins, of course, are going to be representing a heck of a lot more than just the 15,000 fans or so that will pack into the TD Garden on Wednesday night. The entire city, and perhaps the entire sports world is going to be backing them, knowing that a victory would help bring some relief to the otherwise torn city of Boston. Of course, the team is going to have to get back in better form in a hurry. The B’s lost each of their last two games against the shoddy New York Islanders and Carolina Hurricanes, and this isn’t the easiest game in the world by any stretch of the imagination. The Bruins are a point back but have a game in hand against the Montreal Canadiens for the top spot in the Northeast Division, and they need literally every single point that they can get to run down the Habs if they are going to be more than the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Don’t let emotions get in your way of placing bets in this game. For as much as we would like to back the Bruins and root on the city of Boston as it heals in the aftermath of the Marathon, we know that the odds are on our side to play Buffalo. Remember, the Sabres don’t have to win this game anywhere near half the time to make this profitable for us.
