Pointspread: Seattle -5
Total Line: 47
The Saints come into this NFC prime time showdown at 9-2 straight-up on the year after squeaking by Atlanta 17-13 as 7.5-point road favorites their last time out. They fell to 6-5 against the spread and the total has now stayed UNDER in their last two games after going OVER in their previous four outings. Despite having the second-best record in the conference, New Orleans is just one game ahead of surging Carolina in the NFC South.
Drew Brees remains one of the most prolific passers in the NFL this season with 3,647 yards and the vastly improved Saints’ defense is ranked fifth in the league in points allowed (17.8), but there has been a noticeable difference between the team’s play at home and on the road. New Orleans is ranked third in the NFL in scoring with an average of 27.7 points a game, but this average drops all the way to 21.2 points in five road games this year.
Everyone knows that CenturyLink Field in Seattle remains one of the toughest places to win a game on the road, but the 10-1 Seahawks have been rock solid no matter they play over the past few weeks. Add in the fact that the team is coming off a bye and this game presents a golden opportunity to take a major step towards locking up home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Seahawks are riding a six-game winning streak SU into Monday night, but they are just 3-3 ATS. The total has also gone 3-3 during this stretch of games.
Russell Wilson continues to play well in his second season as Seattle’s starting quarterback and the offense is averaging 147.9 rushing yards a game, but the cornerstone of this team remains a defense that is ranked second in the NFL in passing yards allowed (180.4), total yards allowed (293.3) and points allowed (16.3).
Free NFL Pick
As mentioned, it is going to be very hard for the Saints to come into Seattle and get a SU win and I am not sure they will even be able to cover with the five points. The one thing I am sure of is that these two defenses are not going to give up more than 47 points making the free NFL pick in this contest the UNDER on the total line.
New Orleans vs. Seattle UNDER 47
