NBA Betting Preview: San Antonio Spurs vs Dallas Mavericks Game 6

The San Antonio Spurs certainly aren’t getting the rest they had hoped for going into their opening-round playoff series against the Dallas Mavericks. The Miami Heat, which had a long winning streak against the Charlotte Bobcats, was able to earn itself a break by sweeping Charlotte in four straight games in its first round of play, but San Antonio hasn’t been as fortunate. Despite having reigned victorious in nine straight contests over Dallas going into this best-of-seven series, the Spurs have found themselves being extended, even in the games they have won. It might certainly help them for future series if they are able to put away the Mavericks on Friday night, as NBA betting action tips off at 8:05 PM ET at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
In the basketball odds that have been posted on this game by the people at VietBet, San Antonio is laying points on the road:

San Antonio Spurs -3.5
Dallas Mavericks +3.5

Over 199 points -110
Under 199 points -110

Once again, it was a hard-earned victory for the Spurs at home as they came away with a 109-103 decision in the Game 5. And they got some help from unexpected places. Sure, the “Big Three” combined to score 58 points, and that was a very positive thing, but they also got a very big game out of Tiago Splitter, who scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Maybe part of it was the fact that DeJuan Blair, the former San Antonio player who had been given Dallas so much energy off the bench before he became involved in an altercation with Splitter in Game 4, was suspended by the league for one game after kicking Splitter in the head.

Blair is now back, and he has had told everyone willing to listen (including NBA bettors, we hope) that he is ready to bring energy and toughness to the table coming off the bench as the “banger” on the second unit. Certainly Dallas is not known as a defensive team, and they are not a “muscle” squad either. When it comes the reserves there is a real opportunity for San Antonio second unit to shine. Manu Ginobili had 19 points in Game 5, and he has been the leading scorer for the Spurs in the series.

VietBet customers have also noticed that San Antonio got some great ball movement in Wednesday night’s game, racking up 24 assists. The question is whether they will have the same kind of success in the paint, as they scored 49 points on the inside in Game 5. Can Blair slow that down just a bit, in support of Samuel Dalembert or in his stead?

NBA bettors are probably well aware that the Spurs have been the league’s best team on the road, with a sizzling 31-12 straight-up record. That is why coach Gregg Popovich wasn’t overly concerned with whether his team had the #1 seed or not in the playoffs, although they go it anyway. A concern for Dallas is that they lost Game 5 despite getting 26 points from Dirk Nowitzki and 28 points off the bench from Vince Carter. Can those guys duplicate that kind of performance?
