San Antonio dug itself into what appeared to be an insurmountable 16-point hole in Game 1 of this best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinal series with less than five minutes to play. Behind veteran leadership and some clutch shots down the stretch, it was able to pull-out a 129-127 double overtime victory as a nine-point home favorite. This past Wednesday night the Spurs could not pull-off the same feat to fall 100-91 in Game 2 as seven-point favorites at home. The total was split in the two games; staying UNDER the 185.5-point line the last time out.
The trick to regaining home-court advantage with a win on Friday night will hinge on avoiding a slow start out of the gate for the third-straight time. Tony Parker is averaging 22.8 points and 6.2 assists and Tim Duncan is chipping-in 18.7 points while pulling-down 8.3 rebounds a game to help the Spurs average 106 points a game in the postseason, but their troubles in this series have been on the opposite end of the court. After giving-up 53 points in the first half of Game 1, they were torched for 62 points in the first two quarters on Wednesday night. It gets pretty hard playing uphill like this against another high-scoring team like Golden State.
The Warriors had to be sick to their stomachs after blowing Game 1 but you would have never had known it the way they came out smoking on Wednesday night. This time around Golden State was determined to finish what it started and that is exactly what it did by hanging tough in the fourth quarter after the Spurs started to stage another second-half comeback.
Much was made about Stephen Curry’s incredible 44-point and 11-assist performance in a losing effort last Monday. While he did post 22 points in Game 2, all the accolades shifted to his backcourt mate Klay Thompson, who scored a game-high 34 points along with 14 rebounds. The Warriors as a team shot 45.2 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three-point range. If they can play like that on the road, you can only imagine how well they should be able to perform in front of the home-town crowd.

The main advantage that the Spurs have in this series is a vast amount of experience of how to win playoff games, but you get the feeling that the youth and talent of Golden State is starting to get into their heads. The energy level at Oracle Arena will be sky-high on Friday night where the Warriors have gone 31-13 straight-up and 26-18 against the spread this year. Look for Curry and Thompson to light it up again to help their team grab the 2-1 edge in this series.
