MLB Pick: San Francisco Giants vs. Colorado Rockies
Date/Time: Friday, June 28, 8:40 p.m. (ET)
MLB Betting Odds: VietBet
Money Line: San Francisco (+136) Colorado (-146)
Total Line: 10
The Giants bring a four-game losing streak into Game 1 of this NL West showdown and they are just 1-6 in their last seven contests after dropping three of four to Miami at home last weekend and getting swept three zip against the Dodgers on the road this week. They are now four games in back of Arizona in the division at 38-40 which includes a 14-25 road record. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last eight games.
San Francisco has dropped to 11th in the National League in pitching with a team ERA of 4.07 and while it is still ranked third in hitting with a .271 team batting average it is now seventh in scoring with an average of 4.2 runs a game. The Giants will go with Barry Zito as its starter for this series opener. The left-hander is 4-5 overall with a 4.40 ERA but he has struggled on the road this season with a record of 0-4 and an ERA of 11.28. Zito is 8-3 against the Rockies with a 2.84 ERA.
Colorado has just two victories in its last 10 games and is coming off a 3-2 loss to the Mets on Thursday night as a 167 home favorite. This was after it lost two-straight to Boston on the road by a combined score of 16-7. The Rockies are 39-41 overall and 23-18 at Coors Field. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last eight games.
With a powerful lineup that is hitting .272 this season, Colorado is ranked second in the NL in scoring with an average of 4.8 runs a game, but it has been suffering a power shortage lately with three or less runs in seven of its last 10 games. Another problem has been a breakdown in pitching that has allowed a total of 46 runs in the last nine outings. Jhoulys Chacin will be on the mound on Friday night for the Rockies. He is 6-3 this season with a 3.92 ERA. The right-hander has won his last three starts while boasting an ERA of 1.74. He is 3-5 against the Giants with a 4.50 ERA.

These two division rivals have already met 10 times this season and the home team has won eight of those games. Chacin comes in with the hot hand while Zito has been a walking disaster on the road this season. While the UNDER on the total line might be the best play, the recent trends in this matchup makes my free MLB pick a Rockies victory at home.
